A keen runner is preparing to tackle a 200-mile ultramarathon across south Wales 15-20 April, to raise funds for Sherman Theatre’s Creative Engagement programme – more HERE.
Mike Morgan will run the Wild Horse 200 from Chepstow along Offa’s Dyke, crossing the Beacons Way before joining the Wales Coast Path, aiming for the finish line at Worm’s Head.
Through a crowdfunder page, fundraising events and sponsorship, his goal is to raise £5,000 to establish a bursary scheme to support participation across the Sherman’s Youth Theatre, Sherman Players or Sherman Makers programmes. The bursary scheme will offer both fully- and partially-funded placements to individuals experiencing financial barriers to participation.
Mike himself has been a participant in Sherman Theatre’s Creative Engagement programme; a former Sherman Player and frequent Community Chorus member, he has performed in several productions on the Sherman’s main stage, including A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Tales of the Brothers Grimm and Odyssey ‘84. In October 2025 he was one of a group of runners who completed the Cardiff Half-Marathon (HERE) in aid of Sherman’s Share Your Passion Fund – HERE.

Mike told us…..
“I’m running 200 miles for the Sherman Theatre because of the incredible opportunities they’ve given me, and now I want to help pass that on. The Sherman is a remarkable place – it brings people together, nurtures young talent, and makes the arts accessible to everyone. My goal is ensuring that everyone has the chance to engage creatively, regardless of financial barriers.”
Emma Tropman. Sherman Theatre’s Head of Fundraising and Development, said….
“Sherman’s vision is of a world made more equitable, more compassionate, more unified by the power of theatre. The bursary scheme we have in our sights here is a perfect example of how we might diversify participation, expand open access opportunities, open up creative engagement to everyone and support and encourage people to try something new.
This is a long-term plan, too, not something that will start and end once this initial pot of funding is spent. We intend to use the initial money raised as a catalyst for future fundraising, with a core commitment to offering bursary placements across our programmes as standard from next year onwards.
Our gratitude to Mike for taking up such a super-human challenge is immeasurable, and we look forward to cheering him on every step of the way.”
Further information about the bursary scheme, including application and eligibility criteria, will be announced this Summer. In the meantime, Mike’s crowdfunding page can be found HERE.
