Girlguiding Members Explore Cardiff With Cityscape Adventure

Over 2,300 Rainbows, Brownies, Guides, and Rangers from across the UK took part in the Cardiff event last weekend on 21 and 22 March as part of Girlguiding’s nationwide Cityscapes Adventure. The event was also attended and supported by volunteers and Trefoil Guild teams.

The exciting two-day event took place in Glasgow, Cardiff, Portsmouth, York and Manchester and saw over 11,750 Girlguiding members aged 4-18 take on the challenge. From trying a quick craft or getting sporty, to discovering hidden gems in a museum, the big scavenger hunt style wide-game was spread across the city – with bonus points available for spotting and photographing landmarks or hidden items.

Cityscapes Cardiff brought together a wide range of activities built around five themes: sports, crafts, science, strong women, and fun. In sport, participants took part in sessions delivered by Volleyball Wales and Cricket Wales. Tori James also led an inspiring climbing wall challenge at The Red Dragon Centre, where girls and leaders collectively climbed the height of Everest over the weekend.

Activities celebrating strong women were delivered by South Wales Police, South Wales Fire and Rescue Service, and the Royal Navy, giving participants the chance to meet inspiring role models from these fields.

Science and STEM activities included LEGO Architecture with HLM Architects, hands-on sessions from Repair Café Wales, Silver Racing F1 activities, civil engineering workshops from the Institute of Civil Engineers, and interactive sessions led by the Cardiff School of Biosciences. Techniquest also brought their planetarium to Mount Stuart School, giving participants an immersive experience exploring space and the wonders of the universe.

Creative and fun experiences included samba drumming at Cardiff Castle with Samba Galez, dance sessions from M&A Collective, and crafts provided by The Makers Guild Wales alongside Girlguiding volunteers.

A popular activity was the stop motion animation workshop led by Cardiff-based leader Claire Jenkins at the ODEON cinema in Cardiff Bay.

Events took place across venues including National Museum Cardiff, Bute Park, Gwersyll yr Urdd Caerdydd, Mount Stuart School, HMS Cambria, and The Red Dragon Centre and ODEON with thanks to all activity providers and venues who made the event possible.

Teams scrambled to complete challenges, racking up points to climb the leaderboard. They were able to track all the action and see exactly where they ranked in real-time using the Goosechase app.

Cityscapes Adventure is just one of the many opportunities girls and young women aged 4–18 have in Girlguiding to enjoy fun and adventure. For more information about how to get involved with Girlguiding, the UK’s largest youth organisation dedicated to girls, visit HERE.

Tori James, Girlguiding Cymru President told is…..

“Cityscapes was a truly standout event for Girlguiding, showcasing the very best of what it offers: adventure, fun, friendship and learning. Taking place simultaneously across five UK cities, I am incredibly proud that Cardiff welcomed over 2,300 Girlguiding members to Wales for this exciting urban scavenger hunt.

It was fantastic to see the energy of our members as they explored the culture and history of our capital city and engaged with countless missions and challenges. This event would not have been possible without our incredible Girlguiding volunteers, alongside the support of local partners and organisations across Cardiff, who helped create such a dynamic and engaging experience for our girls and young women. Diolch yn fawr i chi gyd.”
