The last 12 months haver made us look for new ways to celebrate those special occasions, from the comfort of our own homes. Birthdays, Christmas, Halloween, we’ve done them all very differently. There is one however, which is very much to celebrate indoors, Valentineâs Day.
Okay, so maybe we would have gone to a restaurant or even a nice hotel, but let’s be honest, when needs must, we can do everything, and more, behind closed doors.
The online retailer Cult Beauty reported a massive 61 per cent increase in âsex stuffâ since lockdown 1.0 began last year, and incredibly, Ann Summers reported a 900 per cent increase in sales of its sex toys during the same period. And who said we’re all watching TV and playing games (computer we mean).
In fact over the festive period we reported on a massive increase in the gifts we were hiding from our loved ones, and sex toys, alcohol and even a house are some of the purchases consumers admit to keeping hidden â something almost one in three (30%) Brits said they do.

- Gen Z are the biggest secret spenders, with almost two thirds (61%) admitting their habit
- Sex toys, food and alcohol, and even a house are amongst the wildest things respondents admit to hiding, while presents and clothing are the purchases most likely to be kept secret
So, we can see we have all be come a little more adventurous during lockdown, but many of us are still a little toy-curious, and need a bit of advice before we take the plunge.
Of course the usual flowers, chocolates and clothing are a fairly safe way to go, but unlike a dozen red roses, the gift most couples are heading to, certainly won’t make you wilt.
