The last 12 months haver made us look for new ways to celebrate those special occasions, from the comfort of our own homes. Birthdays, Christmas, Halloween, we’ve done them all very differently. There is one however, which is very much to celebrate indoors, Valentine’s Day.
Okay, so maybe we would have gone to a restaurant or even a nice hotel, but let’s be honest, when needs must, we can do everything, and more, behind closed doors.
The online retailer Cult Beauty reported a massive 61 per cent increase in “sex stuff†since lockdown 1.0 began last year, and incredibly, Ann Summers reported a 900 per cent increase in sales of its sex toys during the same period. And who said we’re all watching TV and playing games (computer we mean).
In fact over the festive period we reported on a massive increase in the gifts we were hiding from our loved ones, and sex toys, alcohol and even a house are some of the purchases consumers admit to keeping hidden – something almost one in three (30%) Brits said they do.
- Almost a third (30%) of Brits admit to hiding their spending from their loved ones
- Gen Z are the biggest secret spenders, with almost two thirds (61%) admitting their habitÂ
- Sex toys, food and alcohol, and even a house are amongst the wildest things respondents admit to hiding, while presents and clothing are the purchases most likely to be kept secret
So, we can see we have all be come a little more adventurous during lockdown, but many of us are still a little toy-curious, and need a bit of advice before we take the plunge.
Of course the usual flowers, chocolates and clothing are a fairly safe way to go, but unlike a dozen red roses, the gift most couples are heading to, certainly won’t make you wilt.
Whether you’re looking to try one out for the first time, add to your ever expanding collection of couple’s goodies, or find a little Valentine’s bargain to make you both smile, we have a few suggestions and places to go for the best deals.

Valentine’s Day is all about the fun and playing games is part of it, we don’t mean Monopoly, Ker-Plunk or Buckaroo either. There are loads of Apps out there which go down the Truth or Dare route, nut for a couple of quid, we really like these. Not much to say about these really. Simply take it in turns to roll the dice and follow the commands for some fun.

Doing is one thing, but reading about it is another. We found a really good book from Emily Sorensen which is jam packed with fun things even the most close-knit couples sometimes need to warm up a bit and have new experiences. Trying different types of foreplay is a great way not to fall into the routine under the sheets.

Just because we can’t go out for the evening doesn’t mean we can’t make it a special night. Dress for dinner, wear what you would have if you were booked in to a fine restaurant. Make an effort to show your other half just how much they mean to you. And let’s be honest, we haven’t had many reasons to dress up recently.
That, of course extends past the dining table and into later into the evening. Click on the pictures below for a few ideas.
