It’s been announced that theatre lovers will still get a fix of live shows – well, kind of. THE SHOW MUST GO ON is a new You Tube Channel put together with Andrew Lloyd Webber and promises to provide us all a West End and Broadway experience in our own homes, online for free.

The YouTube Channel, for the first time ever, will make available a selection of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s best loved musicals. It started with the incredible and one of the most enduring shows of all time, JOSEPH AND THE AMAZING TECHNICOLOUR DREAMCOAT.

Each show will be available weekly (from 7pm BST) for a limited 24 or 48-hour period online – no charge or sign up required – giving fans of musical theatre an opportunity to enjoy beloved shows, from their living rooms. Sadly, you’ve missed out on Joseph and other amazing shows, but the next one is equally brilliant.

Here’s Andrew Lloyd Webber making the announcement.

Alongside full-length shows, clips of famous performances and behind-the-scenes footage will be uploaded regularly to the channel, so fans can continue to get their theatre fix at home.

This weeks show is an absolute belter, even though it’s now over 20 years old. Based on T. S. Eliot’s Old Possum’s Book of Practical Cats, the show is set amongst a larger- than-life junkyard playground and is alive with our favourite feline characters including Rum Tum Tugger, Mr. Mistoffelees, Macavity, Jennyanydots, Old Deuteronomy, Grizabella and Skimbleshanks.

The Jellicle Cats come out to play on one special night of the year – the night of the Jellicle Ball. One by one they tell their stories for the amusement of Old Deuteronomy, their wise and benevolent leader, who must choose one of the Cats to ascend to The Heaviside Layer and be reborn into a whole new Jellicle life.

CATS is a real classic show, and something a little special. The performance is the 1998 version which starred Elaine Paige. To get you in the mood, here’s the original trailer.

CATS will be live streaming on Friday at 7pm and then available for only 24 hours in the UK and 48 hours everywhere else. Se yourself a reminder and make this your essential Friday night viewing. To watch it, just go here CATS

For fans who wish to make a charitable donation, a variety of organisations will be listed on THE SHOWS MUST GO ON full-length YouTube channel videos, including: Acting for Others, Broadway Cares and Actors Benevolent Fund. To book the best seats in the house (yours) just go here. SHOWS
