The FIM British Speedway Grand Prix stars won’t be the only legends on two wheels in Cardiff on Saturday September 2nd as BLOOD BIKES WALES ride in as nominated charity.
Playing a vital role in relieving the pressure on our massively over-stretched National Health Service, Blood Bikes Wales volunteers provide a completely free courier service for the NHS, relying solely on volunteers and public donations.
What drives them is people like Julie, who’s story you can watch below. They’re gearing up for over 40,000 rides to help more people like Julie and many more all over Wales.
The team works around the clock assisting to deliver among other things vital blood supplies and samples, plasma, donor milk for specialist baby units and essential medication between the various hospitals.
Blood Bikes will be based at the SGP fanzone outside City Hall (from 10am-3pm), close to the ever-popular Monster energy rig, autograph sessions, bike stunt shows, face painting and so much more.
The team will have their own bike on display as well as a children’s version for family fun and photos.
And all before the nail-biting racing starts at the stadium at 5pm – thrilling on-track action as fans gear up to watch 16 riders compete over 23 heats, with each race featuring four riders battling it out over four laps on 500cc bikes with absolutely no brakes!
The charity estimates that with every pound donated to Blood Bikes Wales, the NHS saves £5, which can be invested into frontline care.

In 2021, the team was presented with the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Services and, having been hit hard by the pressures of the pandemic is bouncing back with Vice Chair Tyron Stevenson saying………
“Due to the massively increased workload during Covid – delivering samples and tests to smaller surgeries and care homes for example – we had to put an infrastructure in place to deal with those added needs so now that we’re no longer tasked with this, we’re in an excellent position to help the NHS whenever the demand is there.
We are an enthusiastic group of people based all over Wales and keen to make a difference. Most of us are riders but we rely as much on our non-rider volunteers and for support and fundraising with so many roles to be fulfilled.
We’re continually seeking ways to improve the charity and are absolutely delighted to have the support of the FIM British Speedway GP this year. The British round is a huge event in the Welsh sporting calendar and will help us raise much needed awareness.”
FIM Speedway championships director, Laura Manciet added…….
“It is an absolute pleasure to team up with Blood Bikes Wales and celebrate their great work at the FIM Speedway GP of Great Britain – Cardiff.
Many people ride and race motorcycles because it’s something they love to do and the fact that the Blood Bikes Wales team is taking this so much further in providing vital services for the NHS is fantastic to see.
We look forward to welcoming everyone from Blood Bikes Wales to Cardiff on September 2nd and hope they have a fantastic event with us.”
