In a further effort to tackle the coronavirus, Boris Johnson has said that Cafes, pubs and restaurants must close. Take away food chains will not be affected. All the UK’s nightclubs, theatres, cinemas, gyms and leisure centres have also been told to close “as soon as they reasonably can” although most of them have already closed.
Mr Johnson said the situation would be reviewed each month. The chancellor has said the government will pay 80% of wages for employees who are not working, up to £2,500 a month.

- The chancellor said the government would step in and pay people’s wages as he launched an unprecedented economic rescue plan. The government will cover 80% of the salaries of retained workers, up to £2,500 per month, and defer the next quarter of VAT payments due from businesses. He also outlined £6bn of extra support for the welfare system.
