Yet another show which has been rescheduled, but I’m telling you, this really is a gig you do not want to miss.
As we’re writing this I have memories of a fantastically magical night watching DIONNE WARWICK perform in Newcastle. She was high in the charts then on a massive revival, with songs like Heartbreaker and All The Love In The World. It was an incredible evening and one where you felt, and knew, you were in the company of music royalty.
Now, the legendary six-time Grammy Award-winning recording artist has announced that her new UK & European concert dates, ‘One Last Time’ will form part of her Farewell Tour in October. This really is the last time we’ll get to see her out on tour and you don’t want to miss it.
Dionne told SOUTH WALES LIFE……
“After almost six decades I’ve decided it’s time to put away the touring trunk and focus on recording, one-off concerts and special events.”
“I still love performing live, but the rigours of travelling every day so far from home, sleeping in a different hotels each night, one concert after the other, is becoming hard. So, I’ve decided to stop touring on that level in Europe…. But I’m not retiring!!”
The UK tour will kick off in Belfast and travel across the UK visiting Glasgow, Liverpool, Brighton, Birmingham, Gateshead, bringing her to Cardiff on the 16th October. She’ll also be playing one night at the iconic London Palladium in October, before heading to Europe.
The first leg of this headline tour, will encompass Warwick’s monumental career, with songs from her hugely successful recording catalogue including a selection of classic Warwick/Burt Bacharach/Hal David songs such as ‘I Say A Little Prayer’, ‘Do You Know The Way To San Jose’, ‘Anyone Who Had A Heart’ and ‘Walk On By’.
And you can see there is a new album too, which is so good. She’s Back, is her first recording in five years. With a running time of over an hour the album produced by her son, Damon Elliott. In many ways this is her first album is being promoted as Warwick’s first album grounded in rhythm and blues since Soulful.
You can get the two CD set right here.
Dionne recorded this earlier this year and, as you’ll see from the video, never has there been a more relevant message…….
She ranks among the 40 biggest hit makers of the entire rock era (1955-1999), based on the Billboard Hot 100 Pop Singles Charts. She is one of the most-charted female vocalists of all time, with 56 of her singles making the Billboard Hot 100 between 1962 and 1998, and 80 singles making all Billboard charts combined.
We must of course mention the Dionne’s cousin was the singer Whitney Houston, and her aunt is gospel vocalist Cissy Houston who is Whitney’s mother. It also gives us the opportunity to play this video of them together, along with a host of other stars…..
Unbelievably, that song is now 35 years old but still sounds as fresh now. It was recorded to raise money for the American Foundation.Although Gladys Knight, Elton John and Stevie Wonder sang with her, the single, credited to “Dionne and Friends”, and eventually raised over three million dollars for that cause.
DIONNE WARWICK gets to St David’s Hall in Cardiff on Saturday 16th October. Ticket prices are £63 and £73. If you’d like more details you can call the box office on 02920-878444 (when they are back) or go here. DIONNE
