About the Choirs:
Cowbridge Male Voice Choir

Cowbridge Male Voice Choir was founded in 1971 at the old Eastgate Hotel in Cowbridge and has over 70 choristers. In 2021 the choir celebrated its 50th anniversary since foundation and still holds to the original aim – to perpetuate the great Welsh tradition of male voice harmonised singing. The choir is recognised for the quality and diversity of its sound and repertoire. If you have never heard a male voice choir sing before, then Cowbridge is a great first experience! They have toured widely across Europe and North America and welcomed many distinguished overseas touring groups to share the stage with them in South Wales. In recent years the Choir have had the privilege of sharing the stage with the band of the Welsh Guards at 2 memorable concerts in Cowbridge.

The Choir’s Musical Director is Rhiannon Williams who joined the choir in 2017. Rhiannon is a hugely experienced and expert musical director and is achieving incredible results in the sound and quality of the choir’s performances. Accompanist is Sandra Williams who has been in the position since the choir began was presented with a British Empire Medal for services to music in the Queen’s new year honours 2019.

Howell’s School Llandaff – Prep Competition Choir

The Howell’s School Prep Competition Choir, or PCC as it is known, is just one of the many choirs at Howell’s School Llandaff! Although formed originally to enter choral competitions, PCC has performed at the Senior School’s Summer Concert and at Llandaff Cathedral as part of the Senior School and College Carol Service.

Formed in 2016 and made up of pupils from Years 4, 5 and 6, the choir has, in the past, twice gained a place in the final of the GDST Young Choir of the Year and travelled to London’s Cadogan Hall to compete alongside 5 other GDST Junior Choirs. PCC also got to the final of the Barnardo’s Youth Choral Competition and performed in a spectacular concert at the Royal Festival Hall in London’s Southbank Centre.

Music plays a very important part in the life of the Prep School at Howell’s. The girls enjoy taking part in various choirs, ensembles, bands and orchestras as well as in a range of exciting musical productions. Always willing to use their musical talents to help others, Howell’s Prep School pupils have raised funds to support local charities such as Tŷ Hafan, Marie Curie, Save the Children and Tenovus Cancer Care. We are honoured to have been invited to perform alongside the Cowbridge Male Voice Choir in the magnificent setting of Llandaff Cathedral in support of Maggie’s, a charity very close to us at Howell’s.
