Hundreds of GIRLGUIDING CYMRU members from across Wales experienced an unforgettable day of ice skating and hockey action at the Vindico Arena on February 8th, 2025, thanks to a special event organised in partnership with the Cardiff Devils and Sport Wales.
570 Rainbows, Brownies, Guides, and Rangers descended upon the arena for the Girlguiding Cymru Cardiff Devils Ice Extravaganza.
The day began with half the units enjoying a thrilling match between the Cardiff Comets and the Swindon Topcats, giving the girls a taste of the excitement to come.

The fun began when all 570 members took to the ice for a mass skating session. For many of the girls, this was their first time on the ice, and the atmosphere was buzzing with excitement and nervous anticipation. Adding to the magic of the day, members of the Cardiff Comets, fresh off their own match, generously volunteered their time to help the girls find their footing and build confidence on the slippery surface. Their presence and encouragement proved invaluable, turning wobbly first steps into confident glides.
After the skating session, the focus shifted to the main event: a Cardiff Devils game against the Coventry Blaze. The atmosphere in the Vindico Arena was electric as the girls and their leaders cheered on the Devils, many experiencing the thrill of a live hockey game for the first time.
The event was a resounding success, creating lasting memories for all who attended. Carys, a leader from 1st Letterston Brownies, perfectly captured the sentiment of the day, saying…..
“1st Letterston Brownies had a fantastic time, I don’t think their smiles and voices could get any bigger.”
Girlguiding Cymru Deputy chief commissioner Sarah-Jane Burns was very proud to be asked to step on to the ice at the end of the match to present the Man of the match award.
This event highlights the commitment of Girlguiding Cymru to providing girls with opportunities for fun, adventure, and personal growth. By partnering with organisations like the Cardiff Devils and Sport Wales, Girlguiding Cymru is able to offer unique experiences that broaden horizons and create memories that will last a lifetime.
