Principality Stadium Introduces GiveVision to Enhance Matchday Experience for Visually Impaired Fans

Principality Stadium has confirmed the introduction of GIVEVISION technology, following a successful trial period across major 2025 events.

This move sees the Welsh Rugby Union become the first international rugby union in the world to implement GiveVision technology, further reinforcing its commitment to leading the way in accessible live sports and events.

Developed by GiveVision, the innovative headset technology provides a live stream of the event directly to the users, allowing them to zoom in, adjust contrast and personalise their viewing experience in real time. The lightweight, wearable devices are specifically designed for people with sight loss, offering a transformative way to experience live events, inside large venues.

The impact of the technology was immediately felt, one supporter who used the GiveVision headset fed back: “Using GiveVision completely changed my matchday experience. For the first time, I could follow the action clearly and independently without relying on others to describe what was happening. It made me feel fully part of the atmosphere.”

The introduction of GiveVision addresses a significant participation gap in live sport. According to the Royal National Institute of Blind People (RNIB), 1 in 30 people in the UK live with sight loss, yet only around 1 in 3,000 spectators at live sporting events are visually impaired — a 100-fold disparity.

With more than one million people in the UK affected by sight loss, Principality Stadium does not believe this gap is acceptable. By implementing this technology, the Welsh Rugby Union is taking meaningful action to help close it.

The trial period, which ran across a series of major events, including the Women’s Six Nations and Kendrick Lamar and SZA, received overwhelmingly positive feedback from supporters. Fans praised the clarity of the enhanced view, the ease of use, and greater sense of connection to the action on the pitch and stage.

Following the success, Principality Stadium has now integrated GiveVision into its match day and event day accessibility experience. This move has made the technology available at future fixtures and events.

Head of Ticketing, Dan Cook said…..

“At the Welsh Rugby Union, we are fully committed to ensuring that Principality Stadium is not only a world-class venue, but a truly inclusive one. The return of GiveVision technology for the Guinness Six Nations reflects our continued drive to remove barriers and create an experience where everyone can feel fully immersed in the atmosphere and emotion of international rugby.

We’re incredibly proud to make this technology available for men’s senior matches at Principality Stadium for the first time, and to continue its availability for Wales v Scotland in the Guinness Women’s Six Nations. Our ambition is clear: to ensure every supporter, regardless of their needs, has equal access to the very best matchday experience.”

This development forms part of the stadium’s broader accessibility strategy, which has seen a series of improvements in recent years. From the launch of accessible fan guides and streamlined online accessible ticketing, to trained stewards and stammer-friendly supporter services.

Head of EDI, Liam Scott said……

“Becoming the first international rugby union to implement GiveVision technology is something we are incredibly proud of. But more importantly, it reflects our commitment to action, not just intention.

Stadium accessibility is not a one-off initiative, as part of our Crys I Bawb Strategy goals, we want to be the most accessible rugby stadium in the UK. By investing in innovative technology like GiveVision, we are removing barriers and making sure blind and visually impaired supporters can fully experience the atmosphere, emotion and intensity of live international rugby and live events.

We will continue to listen, learn and evolve, because creating a genuine ‘Stadium for All’ means constantly striving to do better.”

Supporters with the relevant Access Card symbol can contact the WRU Ticketing Team to arrange access to the technology, with further developments to take this process online in the near future
