Sherman Theatre’s annual Christmas show for ages 3 – 6 gives children across Cardiff and South Wales their first taste of theatre.

ELEN BENFELEN/GOLDILOCKS opened at the Sherman on 4th November before it set out on a tour of theatres across the region. It’s now back in the Sherman where it’ll stay until New Years Eve (31st December).

Elgan Rhys’s new telling of the Goldilocks story is the perfect show to introduce children to the magic of theatre at Christmas. The story may be familiar, but this is all shiny and new.

Orangylocks, Purplylocks, Silverylocks, anything but Goldilocks! In Goldentown, there are rules everyone must follow. If you don’t have yellow hair, you are different. And Goldentown isn’t a place to be different….

One day, Goldie’s hair starts to turn blue. This sets her on an adventure far away from Goldentown, and from her Nain – the town’s mayor. Who will she meet along the way? And can they help Goldie change Nain’s rules?

Elgan has a fantastic pedigree having written the fantastic Woof and also directed The Magic Porridge Pot/Hud Y Crochan Uwd back in 2017.This current family favourite is the latest of the Sherman’s much-loved Christmas shows for children aged 3 – 6. Elen Benfelen / Goldilocks is performed in Welsh and English at separate performances.

Elgan told us……

“Essentially, Goldilocks is a story about fitting in, and our contemporary version will turn this familiar story upside down, with a slightly… different journey for Goldie.

The Sherman Christmas shows have a special place in my heart, as it does for so many people. I can’t wait to share Goldilocks with everyone, through an experience that embraces and welcomes differences and is full of magic and music for children and families.”
