We can just hear Oasis singing as you walk through the entrance to the WONDERWOOL festival. Yes, we did say it right. Wonderwool Wales is the largest wool and natural fibre festival in Wales, and one of the largest in the UK. It’s held every year, apart from this thanks to a certain pandemic. It will be back next year though and the dates have now been announced for the last weekend in April, at the Royal Welsh Showground.
The festival really is the go-to diary date for fibre fans, craft-lovers and makers, the vibrant, annual wool and natural fibre showcase. With over 220 exhibitors showcasing hand dyed yarns, fleece, equipment for spinning, weaving, knitting, crochet, felting, dyeing & sewing, along with beautiful designer made finished products, it is the best destination for those interested in these crafts.
There is also a great selection of street food and fine coffee & tea. The event is spacious and the buildings have easy access for wheelchairs & mobility scooters. Parking is free of charge and there are disabled parking facilities near to the halls.
Stock up on wool and natural fibre products from more than 200 high quality stalls, enjoy special exhibitions and learn skills from an expert.
You can book yourself into WOOLSCHOOL to learn or brush up on a variety of skills. You can have an introduction to getting started on Freeform Knitting, showing how easy it is to produce fun, colourful hats, bags, scarves or even a complete garment. Assemble a design or picture using pieces of Pat’s fabulous handmade felt. Decorate your piece with Kantha and other stitches and buttons. You can produce yarn – even excellent yarn – with a simple spindle, and surprisingly speedily if you’re prepared to practice. Booking closes 2-3 days before the show and any remaining places can then be booked on the day via the Information Desk.
No catwalk at this event, the models will be strutting their stuff down the SHEEPWALK, of course….
We’ve read what visitors say about the festival and the comments are nothing but fantastic, in fact they were winner of the Best Event in the Mid Wales Tourism Awards 2019. Something to shout about I reckon and not be sheepish….
