Following his headline ‘sold out’ performance at the BBC Proms in the Park in London and 17 ‘sold out’ concerts on Broadway, the multi-award-winning singer, with probably the most loyal army of fans a performer has ever seen, is coming to South Wales. BARRY MANILOW has announced a limited UK arena tour – and he’s playing Cardiff this summer.

If the Proms concert is anything to go by it will be an incredible night for his large, seemingly female fan-base in the region, at the Motorpoint Arena on Tuesday 2nd June. Now we don’t just say the ‘female fan’ thing without any proof. Many years ago, the team at SOUTH WALES LIFE worked on a huge Manilow Magic event. It was an evening, unsurprisingly, dedicated to Barry.

I won’t go into too much detail but it was 4 hours filled with Barry music, games, raffles, posters, dancing and so much more. There were two men attending, in a venue filled with hugely excited ‘Fanilows’ and the two were our team here.

The facts and figures speak for themselves with BARRY MANILOW. With worldwide sales of more than 85 million records, Barry is ranked as the top adult contemporary chart artist of all time (R&R and Billboard magazines) and his success is a benchmark for popular music. With a multitude of hits, including…………

With so many great songs in his catalogue, it’s no wonder Rolling Stone crowned him ‘a giant among entertainers…the showman of our generation.’ He has received two Emmy Awards, three American Music Awards and a Grammy, as well as a Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and a place in the Songwriters Hall of Fame. In total 27 top ten hits with worldwide record sales topping 85 million.

We also honoured Barry in the UK too. The Royal Northern College of Music (RNCM) based in Manchester has awarded him with a prestigious Honorary Fellowship for his contribution to music. He was presented with the accolade during a concert in Manchester in acknowledgment of his significant contribution to music and the music industry over the past 50 years. You can see that moment right HERE.

On receiving the Honorary Fellowship, Barry said:

‘I am honored to have been chosen to receive this prestigious fellowship and thank the Royal Northern College of Music for this acknowledgement.’

Barry is currently enjoying his successful Las Vegas residency at the Westgate Resort and Casino. The first concert here next year is at Birmingham’s Resorts World Arena on May 28th followed by Newcastle, Manchester, Cardiff, London, Leeds and Glasgow on June 7th. We tell you all the dates because we know so many of his fans will be ‘doing them all.’

BARRY MANILOW gets to the Motorpoint Arena Cardiff on Tuesday 2nd June. Tickets are available now from TICKETLINE or TICKETMASTER or go to the venue for more details MOTORPOINT ARENA call 02920-224488.
