If ever there was a person to write and sing a good love song then that would have to be Michael Bolton. The dates for his Greatest Hits Tour, in line with pretty much every other performer, have been rescheduled. We reckon that should just give us enough time to work on our 1980s Michael hair, which we all seem to be sporting right now.

As we always do when we set about writing a story, we stick on music by that person. In our collection here, we have 29 MB albums. Alright, 5 of those are various Greatest Hits but thats a hell of a lot of albums and a huge catalogue of music.

Now, and after a two year break from the UK, the multiple Award-Winning Singer, Songwriter and Social Activist Michael Bolton is back next year for the Love Songs Greatest Hits tour which brings him to Cardiff, and we know from previous visits, one of the most loyal and enthusiastic crowds he’ll see anywhere.

We wouldn’t usually include home shot footage but you’ll see just how crazy Cardiff went last time Michael was in town. There are times when he could have just stood there and let the fans take over….

Known for his big hits (and big hair back in the day) ‘How Am I Supposed to Live Without You’, ‘How Can we Be Lovers’, ‘When A Man Loves A Woman’ and ‘Time, Love And Tenderness’, Michael has sold more than 65 million albums and singles worldwide. Even for someone who has churned out hit after hit, he confessed that there were several moments in his life when he wanted to give up – particularly at the very start of his singing career.

“There were a lot of experiences that were promising at the start,” he shared. “You get to a point where you don’t want to believe that it’s finally happening and then be disappointed and heartbroken. Heartbroken and flat-broken, that’s the title of somebody’s album there. But this happened over and over again.”

Michael said that he was so focused on succeeding in the music industry and there was never a “plan b” option, it was either this or nothing.

“I could have given up so many times. I describe it as a long walk out into the desert, with occasional cups of water being delivered by an executive saying ‘you’ve got what it takes, come work with us, do an album or two and let’s give it a try’. So I had encouragement from people in the industry, who I believed knew what they were talking about.”

Fortunately, it all went right an in recognition of his incredible artistic achievements, Michael won 2 Grammys for Best Pop Male Vocal Performance (nominated four times), 6 American Music Awards, and a Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.  As a songwriter, he has earned over 24 BMI & ASCAP Awards, including Songwriter of the Year, 9 Million-Air awards, and the Hitmakers Award from the Songwriters Hall of Fame.

To date, Michael has seen 9 studio albums rank in the Top Ten, with 9 #1 singles.  His most recent album Symphony Of Hits, celebrates 50 years in the entertainment industry. The collection of greatest hits newly recorded with complete symphony orchestra was recorded at All Saints College Performing Arts Centre in Perth, Australia.

So how about we take a look at the changing Michael Bolton through his album covers…….

Known for his soulful voice and timeless charm, Michael has also showcased his incredible humour in the viral Saturday Night Live video “Jack Sparrow” and the Netflix comedy “Michael Bolton’s Big Sexy Valentine’s Day Special”, as well as in cameos on Two and a half Men, Fresh off the Boat, Glee and hit series Last Week Tonight with John Oliver. In his autobiography, “The Soul of it All” (Hachette/Center Street), Michael states he is just teeing off on the back nine of his career.

Two and a Half Men

Michael continues to tour the world every year, all while writing, recording and taping for a wide array of projects spanning music, film, television and branded entertainment. He also remains committed to social causes, especially to his foundation The Michael Bolton Charities, now in its 27th year.

He has also written with some of the greatest and most diverse talent of our time, including Bob Dylan, Paul Stanley, Lady Gaga, Diane Warren, and David Foster. Bolton’s songs have been recorded by the likes of KISS, Kanye West, Jay Z, Barbra Streisand, Cher, and Marc Anthony. Continuing to tour the world each year, Michael has performed with legacies such as Luciano Pavarotti, Placido Domingo, Jose Carreras, Renee Fleming and BB King.

Did we choose one of those to play you – not on your life. Here he is with X Factor winner Sam Bailey……

We also know that Michael is pretty good around a golf course, so maybe we can persuade him onto one of our many fantastic championship course in South Wales.

Michael Bolton’s new dates follow three sold out tours across the UK. Original tickets for his Greatest Hits, Love Songs Tour at the Motorpoint Arena in Cardiff are still valid, but we’ve checked and there are still some available for the new date on Tuesday 5th October.
