There are some performers who, when they announce a ‘Greatest Hits’ tour, you know you’re in for one hell of a night. In some cases, you’ll end up asking – ‘how on earth are they going to cram everything in.‘ Welcome the PET SHOP BOYS first ever Greatest Hits tour which brings them to the Motorpoint Arena in Cardiff on a rescheduled date.
A band with well over thirty years of music, it’s going to be one fantastic party. Not only incredible songs they’ve performed themselves of course, but an amazing body of work they’ve produced for others – have a click on the names to hear the songs.
Always keeping it current, PSB got together on the single ‘Dreamland’, featuring Years & Years last year. The song was actually written by Chris Lowe and Neil Tennant with Olly Alexander who also duets with Neil on the track. It was the bands first new music since their acclaimed ‘Agenda’ EP, released in February, and from the recently released album ‘HOTSPOT’ .

They had only one show in 2019 when they headlined the BBC Radio 2 Live in Hyde Park concert in London. Mostly they’ve been working on other projects.
MUSIK, the cabaret show starring Frances Barber, written by Jonathan Harvey with six songs by Tennant and Lowe, had a critically-acclaimed, sold-out run in Edinburgh before transferring to London for five further performances.
The Jonathan Harvey/Pet Shop Boys musical CLOSER TO HEAVEN was also revived for two months last summer at the Above The Stag theatre in Vauxhall, attracting sold-out audiences every night. Tennant and Lowe have also written music for a stage version of Hanif Kureishi’s MY BEAUTIFUL LAUNDRETTE which premieres at the Leicester Curve theatre later this month.
PET SHOP BOYS told us……
“We have had a busy year finishing our new album with Stuart Price and writing songs for Musik and My Beautiful Laundrette. We’ve also toured the Far East and are looking forward to bringing our biggest hits together in a new tour next year. It’s so exciting that our new single is a collaboration with Years & Years, one of the most original and successful bands to emerge this decade, and we really enjoyed writing and recording it with Olly Alexander.”
The guys have recently completed work on their latest studio album – the third part of a Stuart Price-produced trilogy which started with ‘Electric’ in 2013 and continued with ‘Super’ in 2016. The album is out now and everything we’d expect from the guys.
So, let’s get onto the DREAMWORLD: THE GREATEST HITS LIVE tour. It’s difficult to guess what they’ll perform, and we all have our own favour PSB songs. I remember the very first time I heard West End Girls. I had a promo version sent from the record company and played it as I drove over the Tyne Bridge in Newcastle, a rather fitting place really knowing where PSB come from. From that, like many of us, I was completely hooked. So, here’s a selection of songs, randomly chosen by ALEXA this morning in the office. Will they play these we wonder?
I think it’s safe to say they’ll be performing some, if not all of those on the tour. You can catch PSB on DREAMWORLD: THE GREATEST HITS LIVE at the Motorpoint Arena in Cardiff. The rescheduled date is Tuesday 25th May. For ticket details go here PSB
And if you want to see what PSB are up to, take a look at their official site. We love its kind of retro newspaper feel.
