Retro is back, as though it ever really left us. The 80s are set to go classical with some of the best performers and some of our favourite songs, making their way into town, this time with a full orchestra in tow.
80s CLASSICAL came about after a one off night for BBC Radio 2 following a very special show as part of their Friday Night is Music Night series. That show was such a success and clearly the audience loved the combination of 80s music with a classical orchestra that the incredible creative team of Steve Anderson (Kylie / Steps / Leona Lewis) and Cliff Masterson (Little Mix / Emeli Sandé / Tom Walker) 6 new shows. It promises to be an incredible night filled with nostalgia with some of your favourite music performed on an epic scale!
Jimmy Somerville, Belinda Carlisle, Howard Jones, Nik Kershaw and Carol Decker along with host Gary Davies and the Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra will be performing sounds of all your 80s favourites live in arenas next year as part of 80s Classical.
The creative team are stars in their own right and have worked on some amazing projects.
Cliff has scored a number of films and conducted Hollywood movie scores including Doctor Strange, Hacksaw Ridge, Alien: Covenant and Guardians of the Galaxy 2. Together with Steve Anderson he composed music for the London Olympics and produced the music for the opening of the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.
Steve is best known for his work with Kylie Minogue having been her Musical Director since 1998 working on every tour and appearance including “Showgirl”, “Aphrodite – Les Folies”, “The Queens Diamond Jubilee”, The Olympics and Commonwealth Games opening and closing ceremonies and her critically acclaimed tour “Golden”. He has also worked as Musical Director for Leona Lewis , Steps, Little Mix and Westlife as well as the orchestral spectaculars “Lush Classical” and “The Symphonic Sounds Of Back To Basics” with long term collaborator and arranger Cliff Masterson.
For any fan of the 80s this is going to be one memorable night as some of the most iconic songs reworked into breath-taking new orchestral versions and performed live by the original artists. Expect hits such as…….
