If ever an event says what it is on the can, then this is it. And you’re also very likely to get something served from a can over the festival weekend. For the first time the GREAT WELSH BEER FESTIVAL is coming to Sophia Gardens. There will be an incredible selection of real ales, international beers, ciders, perries, gins, tasty street food, live music and much more!
There will be hundreds of the best beers, come and explore the finest beers that Wales has to offer, as well as plenty of great choices from further afield.
Now, it’s Welsh beer which will be bowling people over. And the organisers are hoping there will be even more beer than at this year’s event which saw 130 cask ales from Wales and the borders. The local brewing and pub scene in Wales is booming, according to CAMRA’s Good Beer Guide 2020. It has more than 100 breweries, seven of which opened in the last 12 months.
Now, following an agreement to triple investment in the annual Cardiff event, the Great Welsh Beer Festival will feature:
- a marquee with capacity for more than 5,000 festival-goers (an increase from 700 this year)
- triple the number of local beers on tap and dedicated brewery bars
- a session for the trade and press
- the announcement of the Champion Beer of Wales and opportunities to sample the winner
- locally sourced food stands to showcase the best of Welsh food.
The event has received significant investment from CAMRA, which aims to reflect the growing beer festival scene in Wales.
Organiser Winston Wardle told us……
“The Great Welsh Beer Festival has been a staple of the Cardiff calendar for a number of years. It’s growing popularity has encouraged us to take the next step forward, tripling our investment to host the largest beer festival in Wales.”
“With an outdoor venue and more beers than ever before, visitors can be sure to sample the very best on offer across Wales.”
The GREAT WELSH BEER FESTIVAL is on Wednesday 22nd April, with EXCLUSIVE Free entry for CAMRA members from 5 to 10.30 pm. Then again on Thursday 23rd to Saturday 25th between 11am and 10.30pm. For more information and to get yourself tickets, go here. BEER
