As horror stories go, THE LEGEND OF SLEEPY HOLLOW is right up there as one of the best, and creepiest. From the pages of the classic novel, and incredible movie adaptions, the story takes a new twist as it unleashes terror on the stage, in a heart-pounding visual masterpiece directed by Jake Smith
Stars of the stage and screen, Wendi Peters (Big! The Musical; Coronation Street) and Bill Ward (Everybody’s Talking About Jamie; Emmerdale), lead this new production of Washington Irving’s classic tale which has been adapted by acclaimed playwright Philip Meeks (Murder, Margaret and Me; Harpy), bringing one of the most terrifying monsters on stage – the Headless Horseman.
With Hallowmas celebrations fast approaching, the residents of Sleepy Hollow spin tall tales of legends and unsightly entities. But who can tell truth from nightmare?
Ichabod Crane enters an eerie world of secrets and unsettling tradition as he arrives in Sleepy Hollow to become the town teacher. While quickly finding friendship with the town patriarch and his spirited daughter, his presence is not wholly welcome.
But not all is as it seems, for Ichabod Crane harbours his own dark secret. He is not in Sleepy Hollow by chance. When disturbing events overwhelm the small town, he finds himself swept up in a dangerous mystery which leaves him doubting his own sanity.
The ghoulish and edge-of-the-seat experience will tour theatres across the UK later this year.
Taking on the leading role of Ichabod Crane is Sam Jackson (Skins, E4; Beautiful Thing, National Tour) alongside Rose Quentin (York Witches Society, MSR Media), Lewis Cope (Vera, ITV; Witness for the Prosecution, London County Hall) and Tommy Sim’aan (As You Like It, Sam Wanamaker Playhouse; Doctors, BBC).
Director JAKE SMITH knows a thing or two about bringing classic tales to the stage (The Hound of the Baskervilles; A Christmas Carol; I’m Gonna Pray For You So Hard), and the illusions are so fantastic in this production, bu then I guess you wouldn’t expect anything less from FILIPE J. CARVALHO (Back To The Future The Musical; Secret Cinema presents Stranger Things).
Jake told us……
“Sleepy Hollow is undoubtedly one of the greatest horror stories ever written and a tour de force to stage. This production has at its heart the power of nomadic storytelling and gathering around the campfire for a good ghost story. It is an important story for now as we look at conversations around the identity of nations, communities and humankind throughout the world.”
“This production has allowed an incredible ensemble of actors to viscerally and inventively bring the Hollow to life. It is a piece that shines on our actors’ athleticism, which is really exciting as we look to theatre returning. We look forward to transporting the audience through a quest of logic and illusion, creating fear and defying expectation.”

WENDI PETERS is of course best known for her portrayal of the iconic Cilla Battersby-Brown in Coronation Street, and as a series regular in Hetty Feathers for CBBC. If you’ve not seen her on stage yet, this is a great chance her, she is terrific live, and incredibly busy (when Covid allows).
Recently she was in the European Premiere of You Are Here at the Southwark Playhouse. The National Tour of John Cleese’s Bang Bang. And at the end of lockdown number one, she was at the Dominion Theatre in the West End premiere of Big The Musical, alongside Jay McGuiness.
BILL WARD is another TV favourite playing evil villain Charlie Stubbs in Coronation Street – he was the guy who got it in the head from Tracy Barlow. He then moved on to Emmerdale, and is no stranger to South Wales having spent some time in Casualty, the series not another blow from Tracy.
What you may not know is that Bill is also well known for his camera work (still photography). He is PENTAX Ambassador and regularly receive awards for his work and has permanent exhibitions in a number of galleries and studios. Bill will be at this years WALES & WEST PHOTOGRAPHY SHOW, which has had more than a few Covid cancellations. Fingers crossed it all goes ahead in July at the ICC Wales.
You can find out more about that event HERE.
