Here & Now: The Steps Musical in Cardiff This Week

It’s here this week – HERE AND NOW, the brand-new musical based on the songs of multi-million-selling pop phenomenon, Steps. Hailed as the “biggest jukebox hit since MAMMA MIA!” (The Sun), this feel-good celebration of love and friendship gets to the Wales Millennium Centre through till Saturday.

To sing this musical is packed with all our favourite Steps songs would be an understatement, There’s not 5,6,7,8 but a massive 21 of them, so this really is going to one heck of a party.

It’s Friday night and the vibe is right as Caz and her fabulous friends dream of the perfect summer of love. But when Caz discovers her ‘happy ever after’ is a lie, and the gang’s attempts at romance are a total tragedy, they wonder – will love ever get a hold on their hearts? Or should they all just take a chance on a happy ending…

Here & Now is directed by the award-winning Rachel Kavanaugh (Half a Sixpence, The Great British Bake Off Musical). There’s a fantastic cast which includes Lara Denning as Caz, Jacqui Dubois as Vel, Blake Patrick Anderson as Robbie, Rosie Singha as Neeta, River Medway as Jem, Chris Grahamson as Gareth, Edward Baker-Duly as Max, Ben Darcy as Ben, John Stacey as Lesley and Lauren Woolf as Tracey.

Sally Ann Matthews will take over the role of Patricia in time for the Cardiff shows, best known for her role of Jenny Bradley in ITV’s Coronation Street.

The show had its world premiere at  The Alexandra in Birmingham last year and played for three weeks after it became the theatre’s fastest-selling show ever.

Those banging tunes come courtesy of one of the UK’s most successful bands ever, who have 22 million record sales and 500 million streams under their collective belts since they came to fame in 1997. Their numerous hits include the song that gives the musical its title.
