500 Years of Christmas at Tredegar House

More than 100 Christmas trees and centuries of festive tradition are on display as part of a seasonal celebration.

TREDEGAR HOUSE is marking ‘500 Years of Christmas’ with an immersive experience that brings to life festive customs from the Tudor period through to the 1980s.

The event features Tudor feasts, Victorian traditions, 1950s school days and 1980s nostalgia, inviting visitors of all ages to explore the evolution of Christmas over five centuries.

Lizzie Smith Jones, general manager for the south east Wales portfolio at National Trust Cymru told us…..

“This Christmas at Tredegar House celebrates the joy of the season and the remarkable history that makes this place so special.

We’re inviting everyone to discover the stories and customs that have shaped Christmas here for generations and to experience the magic of 500 Years of Christmas this festive season.”

The house has more than 100 decorated Christmas trees illuminated with thousands of twinkling lights, creating a magical setting for visitors.

The main event runs from to 31st December, with daytime entry from 11am to 3.30pm on the first weekend of the event.

Late-night openings take place from December 12th to 23rd, with the house open from 12pm to 7.30pm.

Father Christmas will be spreading cheer around the grounds, while Scrooge will be inside the house avoiding the celebrations on December 13, 14, 20, 21, 22, and 23 between 1pm and 7pm.

Tredegar House will also remain open during Twixmas for the first time, from December 27th to 31st.

Visitors can enjoy a quiet winter walk or a final look at the festive displays before the season ends.

Normal admission charges apply throughout the festive season.

Visitors can sip hot chocolate, stroll through the illuminated grounds, and enjoy the festive atmosphere.
