We’d like to bet that pretty much all of you reading this will know WYNNE EVANS, if not as himself then most certainly as the bloke from the Go Compare adverts. But come on, we’re all from Wales so we know what he does outside of those adverts.

You may think that Gio Compario is the man from the advert and someone else does the singing, but you couldn’t be further from the truth. Wynne is the real deal and a professionally trained opera singer with over 25 years’ experience, in fact his debut album ‘A Song in My Heart went to Number 1 in the classical charts.

Not one to sit around for long Wynne is a regular presenter on BBC Radio Wales and has also presented on BBC Radio 3 and Classic FM, alongside starring in his very own TV series on BBC One Wales, ‘Wynne At the Deep End’.

He was honoured by the National Eisteddfod with the title of Gorsedd of the Bards, where he presented the BBC2 TV programme, and last year performed for the King Charles III and the Queen Consort Camilla at their Welsh home.

If you cut Wynne in two you’d see Wales running right through him, he was born here, lives and works here. His studies took him to the Guildhall School of Music and Drama and the National Opera Studio in London.

As a principal tenor with Welsh National Opera, his many roles included DUCA Rigoletto, RODOLFO La Bohème, ALFREDO La Traviata, and TAMINO The Magic Flute. He has appeared throughout the UK, with companies such as Opera North, English National Opera, Scottish Opera and Grange Park Opera, and has recorded several operas including Salome, Ariadne Auf Naxos and Les Martyrs.

Now, Wynne is playing two very special shows which will be all him – although we suspect there’ll be a little vocal appearance from the aforementioned Gio Compario. The dates and ticket details are at the bottom of the page.

We spoke to Wynne recently at the end of his radio show, hence the reason he’s in a cramped BBC booth. We chatted about the live dates, his early days training and learning his voice, and of course those adverts. But first, we gave him a little pat on the back for the incredible job he’s done on his diet – five and a half stone and counting…….
