Hallelujah Sister Act The Musical is back!

If you were to pick a few of your favourite Whoopi Goldberg movies we are pretty certain SISTER ACT would be right up next to Ghost. As the character Deloris Van Cartier who had to become a nun to escape the mob, she was perfect.

Well now, the Academy Award-winning actress Whoopi Goldberg is back as Deloris along with BAFTA award winner Jennifer Saunders in the role of Mother Superior as the newly adapted production of SISTER ACT THE MUSICAL comes to London for just 39 performances this summer.

Based on the iconic movie, this sparkling tribute to the universal power of friendship, sisterhood and music tells the hilarious story of the disco diva whose life takes a surprising turn when she witnesses a murder and heads to the one place she won’t be found – a convent! Disguised as a nun and under the suspicious watch of Mother Superior, Deloris helps her fellow sisters find their voices as she unexpectedly rediscovers her own.

Whoopi made her Broadway debut in 1984, starring in a one-woman show which featured different character monologues, catching the eyes of Steven Spielberg, who offered her the role of Celie in The Color Purple – she received a Golden Globe nomination for best actress. On Broadway, she has starred in A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum and Xanadu. In 2010, Goldberg made her West End debut in the West End premiere of Sister Act as Mother Superior.

One half of comedy duo French and Saunders, she’s wrote and starred in television shows including Absolutely Fabulous and Jam and Jerusalem. On stage, she has starred in Lady Windermere’s Fan as well as writing the script for Viva Forever at the Piccadilly Theatre.

Of course, we’re telling you all this but we also have to say the run is almost sold out. You will need to be quick if you want to catch Whoopi and Jennifer together.
