The hit Broadway musical, HAMILTON, written by Lin Manuel Miranda, opened on Broadway five years ago and was an instant smash. It has also been playing in London’s West End since late 2017 to sold out audiences.
Getting tickets to the show is a tough call, and with the current crisis, who knows when things will return to normal in our theatres. To ease us along a performance of the Original Broadway Cast, filmed back in 2016, which was due to be released on the Disney+ channel late next year is heading our way soon.
Due to the Coronavirus, Worldwide lockdown, the live performance recording will be released more than a year earlier than planned, this Friday, 3rd July.
The official Broadway Twitter account tweeted
“Shout it to the rooftops! The original Broadway production of @HamiltonMusical, filmed LIVE onstage at the Richard Rodgers Theatre, is now coming exclusively to@DisneyPlus this July 3rd.”
The London show is on hold at the moment, this is the statement about the show.
Alexander Hamilton made his way to America at the age of 19 and was a dedicated supporter of American Independence. Alongside Aaron Burr and three other revolutionaries John Laurens, Marquis de Lafayette and Hercules Mulligan, the men dreamed of laying down their lives for their political cause. Working alongside George Washington, Hamilton helped The Continental Army become victorious and America was freed from the British and King George. But whilst Hamilton’s political future was bright, his personal reputation was ruined by scandal.
The best way to get a complete understanding of just how phenomenal this show is, take a look at the Tony Awards performance from the cast. It begins with an introduction from then President Obama.
So, if you haven’t had a chance to be ‘in the room where it happens’ live at the theatre then you don’t have to wait much longer before you can see it in the comfort of your own home, on Disney+ from 3rd July. To keep an eye on the channel, go here DISNEY+
Seeing the show live is definitely the way to go however, we’ve seen it twice in London and were blown away by the entire cast and production. We were fortunate enough to be at the first ever performance in the UK and when Lin Manuel Miranda came into the auditorium to take his seat, the audience went wild, not as wild as we did when the performance finished. It was truly awesome. Booking is now extended due to the current crisis, to find out more, go here. HAMILTON
SOUTH WALES LIFE was also at the Olivier Awards at the Royal Albert Hall in 2018 when Hamilton swept the boards. The opening performance from the cast was fantastic and always worth a watch.
