It’s now 54 years since EARTH DAY began, a day for people across the globe to come together, not only to celebrate the world, but also raise awareness about how crucial it is that we take steps now to protect our precious planet.
Earth Day takes place every year on 22nd April and previously, people have taken part in protests, marches and big clean-ups to highlight the importance of being green and taking care of the planet.
Today (21st April), 300 year 7 pupils from BRYNTEG COMPREHENSIVE in Bridgend spent the morning creating transient art on the beaches at Porthcawl. Rock/Pebble stacks outside the Pavilion on the stepped beach and sand art and sand sculptures on Sandy Bay beach (by the fairground) artwork was clearly visible from the Eastern Promenade.
We went along to see the work, meet the kids and chat to Art Teacher Sara Topham and Porthcawl Councillor, Brian Jones.
Earth Day is an opportunity for us all to think about our actions to protect the planet for future generations. Whether you recycle religiously, avoid plastics or plant trees, you’re probably trying to do your bit for our planet. Earth Day 2023 is an ideal moment to take stock and see how others are making a difference.
