Pantomime is always a favourite no matter what your age. Whether you bring your kids, grandchildren, or maybe even yourself along to the annual shows, there is nothing better to get us in the festive spirit than a good old-fashioned South Wales panto.
After an enforced pandemic break, The Riverfront Theatre & Arts Centre in Newport can finally welcome their festive family pantomime which returns this Christmas and New Year.
And what an adventure it’s going to be – ‘Oh Yes It Is‘. We’ll be magically transported to the Newport Forest (The Riverfront) for an all singing, all dancing time with ROBIN HOOD.

It all begins on Tuesday 29th November when Newport favourite RICHARD ELIS returns as Much the Millar’s son, who is desperate to be one of the Merry Men and will be joined by GERAINT RHYS EDWARDS who returns to play Robin Hood himself. You may well remember them for their memorable performance together as the Ugly Sisters in 2019/2020’s record-breaking pantomime Cinderella.
Take a look at picture three for a trip down panto memory lane. We’ve got to say, Richard and Geraint make mighty fine looking ‘sisters’.
Robin Hood strives to win the hand of the beautiful Maid Marion while he and his trusty band of followers outwit the evil Sheriff of Nottingham. Enjoy this timeless tale as the remarkable Robin saves the day; in a show packed full of comedy, slapstick, action, music, dazzling dance, adventure, and of course plenty of Pantomime magic!
Robin Hood also sees the return of the production team behind Cinderella, Writer and Director Richard Gauntlett, Musical Director Dyfan Jones and Choreographer and Assistant Director Angela Sheppard.
An annual event in the theatre’s calendar, The Riverfront panto draws in audiences of all ages including school groups and families to sit back and enjoy a glittering production full of song, dance and comedy gags. Its absence over the last two years was felt greatly not just by audiences but the Riverfront team themselves who are delighted that panto returns this year!

Gemma Durham, The Riverfront’s Head of Theatre, Arts and Culture told us……
“We are absolutely thrilled to be bringing The Riverfront pantomime back this year. We have a wonderful cast and creative team, including some returning favourites, working on Robin Hood and we can’t wait to welcome audiences back this festive period for another exciting and entertaining night out with friends and family.”
