Since 2002 over 16 million theatergoers in 19 countries have been thrilled by this awe-inspiring production. With 24 of Queen’s biggest hits delivered in a show that boasts the scale and spectacle that marked the bands’ legendary live performances.

With 24 of Queen’s biggest hits and Ben Elton’s hilarious futuristic comedy writing combined, comes a show that boasts the scale and spectacle that marked the band’s legendary live performances. This global phenomenon will continue to be one of the most spectacular musicals to tour the United Kingdom & Ireland.

Queen and Ben Elton’s smash hit musical ‘We Will Rock You’ is back for 2022 to celebrate its 20th anniversary with a new tour in theatres across the UK.

The musical has seen unprecedented success in theatres and arenas all around the world since it first premiered in London nearly 20 years ago at the Dominion Theatre in May 2002. And now, the original writer of We Will Rock You and godfather of stand-up comedy, Ben Elton will be back in the Director’s chair working with the new 2022 cast ready to rock UK audiences once again.

Ben Elton said……

“I can hardly believe it’s been 20 years since We Will Rock You premiered in London. Or that much of what we thought was science fiction in the script back then has turned into science fact! I guess Queen were always ahead of the game! I’ve directed this show all over the world and I can’t wait to bring it home to the UK with a brand new production and a fabulous cast of young Bohemians, most of whom were rocking in their cradles when this adventure first began.”

So what is the show all about?

First of all, you need to know that is a proper show, not just a jukebox musical filled with Queen hits, although it is crammed full of 24 of their best songs.

We Will Rock You is set in a futuristic, fully globalised utopia in which Earth has been renamed Mall. It is totally commanded by the software company Globosoft. In this digital world, people act the same, behave the same, think the same.

A group of Bohemians struggle to restore the free exchange of thought, fashion, and live music. Musical instruments and composers are forbidden, and rock music is all but unknown.

I have to confess I do have a little WWRY history. Having seen the London production on its first run, I was delighted to get a chance to see it again on one of its many tours. During one of those I got to interview Brian May – the signed albums still have pride of place in my collection. Later that evening I was asked if I’d like to be in the show!

Now don’t get me wrong, there was no singing, dancing or even seeing my face properly, I was dressed – well let me say that your Christmas turkey wrapped in foil was probably more attractive than I was that night. But it was WWRY, Brenda Edwards and Robbie Williams best mate Jonny Wilkes were starring, so who was I to turn it down.

I have seen the show a few times when Brian May and Roger Taylor come out at the end of the evening and play the encore. Now I’m not for one minute saying that will happen in Cardiff, but it would be pretty awesome if it did.

Brian was there in February at opening night at the King’s Theatre in Portsmouth, so if he is reading this feature now – Cardiff is lovely at this time of year!!!

The cast for the show are top-notch, as you would expect with Queen at the controls.

  • Ian McIntosh – Galileo
  • Elena Skye  –Scaramouche
  • Jennifer O’Leary – Killer Queen
  • Michael McKell – Buddy
  • Adam Strong – Khashoggi
  • David-Michael Johnson – Brit
  • Amy Di Bartolomeo – Oz

And a fantastic ensemble including Laura Bird, Kate Leiper, Joanne Harper, Anna Davey, Edward Leigh, Spin, Karen Walker, David Muscat, Damien Walsh, Laura Ava-Scott, Victoria Collins, Joseph Connor, Louis Clarke-Clare and Jacob Fearey.

WE WILL ROCK YOU gets to the Wales Millennium Centre next week, from Monday 4th to Saturday 16th April. Performances are at 7:30pm with matinee shows on both Thursday and Saturday’s. For more details and to get tickets, go HERE.
