Newport Live Offers Free Sport, Fitness, Leisure and Cultural Activities This January

Newport Live  is offering a range of FREE activities this month, enabling people to beat the January blues by engaging in various sports, fitness, walking and creative activities.

Newport Tennis Centre at Newport Live is partnering with Barclays to offer Free Parks tennis every Saturday in January – at 10am at Tredegar Park for all abilities. In addition, there’s a free family fun day on Sunday 18 January from 2pm to 5pm.

Momentwm, which inspires walking, wheeling and cycling across Newport  is launching a range of new programmes this month including the new cohorts of Couch 2 5k walking programme which starts on the 19 and 20 January with both daytime and evening sessions available. It’s free to join – but places are limited – and those who complete the course are eligible for a free 10-week Newport Live membership.

In addition, the fitness team at Newport Live has launched free HYROX sessions throughout January – to complement those already on the timetable. They’re free for both members and non-members and can be booked at reception, on the Newport Live website or app.. Newport Live became an official  HYROX-affiliated venue in 2025,  which marks another step forward in their HYROX journey – enabling anyone and everyone to access the popular circuit-based workouts free of charge.

Did you know too that we offer Free swimming sessions for  Over 60’s, Armed Forces and Veterans as well asUnder 17s at designated times at both the Regional Pool and Tennis Centre and Active Living Centre, Bettws.

Finally – The Riverfront Theatre and Arts Centre is  holding free cinema screenings this January, including Nuremberg, When Harry Met Sally, Happy Feet, Singin’ In The Rain and Labyrinth. Panto season maybe over but the fun doesn’t have to stop here!

The Riverfront’s also hosting a selection of free workshops including a weekly crochet club, craft for wellbeing groups, community choirs, and creative writing.
