Less than one month after officially launching, the team behind Newport’s Corn Exchange are preparing to throw the doors of the city’s newest live music venue open, for a very special soft live launch event on New Year’s Eve.
From 2 pm until 8 pm, everyone is welcome to pop in, meet the team and take a tour of the venue before work starts on transforming it in January.

Corn Exchange Steering Group Chair Sam Dabb told us…..
“We are just over two months from our first full-scale gig, so what better time to throw our doors open, to welcome people in and to show them what we’re all about?”
Live music throughout the day will come from Welsh language girl band Gwenu, Eurekas, Kevin Brennan MP, Ellis Thomas and Newport’s own indie idols, Darling Buds, who will be headlining the day’s live music programme.
Emma Stowell-Corten, the group’s Press Officer added…..
“We have been so lucky since we launched.
Everyone has been so, so supportive and so positive – literally everyone we’ve spoken to – and we are super-lucky that all of these bands and artists have agreed to give us their time on New Year’s Eve to help us show off this amazing space.”
Since launching on December 1st, the group of seven volunteers behind Corn Exchange have attracted more than £34,000 in community share offer revenue from members of the public keen to support and be a part of the project – but there’s still more work to do to get this new 500 capacity music venue off the ground before The Bug Club take to the stage as the venue’s first headline band on March 2nd.
Live Events Officer, Elisha Djan said……
“Everyone who’s taken up the share offer so far has been so generous. It’s just going to be great to show people around on New Year’s Eve to share our ideas and vision for the space and to hopefully get more people involved!”
Drinks, nibbles and live music – the New Year’s Eve event is free entry – everyone should pop in!
The Corn Exchange is located on High Street, Newport. You’ll find it opposite Le Pub. Find out more about Corn Exchange HERE.
