LETTERS HOME

Letters Home is a short film commemorating and remembering the Welsh soldiers who gave their lives during the First World War.

The film, written and produced by Jacqueline (Jaye) Swift of Llantwit Major, was inspired after touring WWI Battlefields in Flanders. The story follows three young soldiers writing what could be their final letters home before going over the top on the first day of the Battle of the Somme.

Hate had never made a film before, nor her crew, nor the actors. It went on to win Best Welsh Short at the Cardiff International Film Festival. Jaye will screen the film during her presentation and explain how she made it.

The Barry War Museum (run by the Barry at War Group) aims to research, preserve and promote the wartime history of the town and surrounding area.

Their aim is to support schools and groups researching the local war history of Barry and surrounding area, by exhibiting at heritage events and holding exhibitions about the topic, with the aim of educating the public.

They also seek to learn more about this fascinating subject from those who lived through the area’s wartime history.
