Cinemas Ready To Welcome Us Back

As we take steps back to a new type of normality, our cinemas are reopening and we can begin to enjoy films on the big screen once again. It will differ, depending on which brand of movie house you choose. This follows on from the Government’s plan to ease lockdown measures, with pubs, hotels and bars now reopening.

It is understood that we will need to wear face masks when we go to the cinema. This happened last time they reopened and it seems likely similar measures will have to be in place this time.

Customers will also be encouraged to book tickets online and order pre-packaged food and drink. Cash payments will not be allowed.

Odeon said it would open most of its 120 UK sites with new safety measures in place.

“We’ve all missed the magic that the cinema brings to movie watching.”

They said it would be reopening the “vast majority” of its sites, including flagship cinemas at London’s Leicester Square, Manchester’s Trafford Centre and Birmingham’s Broadway Plaza.

Cinemas seats will be limited, guaranteeing unoccupied seats to meet social distancing requirements.

Visitors will be expected to wear face masks but will be allowed to remove them in auditoriums when eating or drinking.

Meanwhile, show start times will be staggered to reduce queues and the cinemas no longer accept cash, which means only contactless payment is accepted and cinemagoers are advised to pre-book seats online.

Odeon hopes film fans will flock back to cinemas to see host of new releases, including Peter Rabbit 2: The Runaway, Fast & Furious 9, Marvel’s Black Widow and the long-awaited Bond film No Time to Die.

They will also screen Oscar-winning films that have been offered at no extra charge on screening services, such as Sound Of Metal (Amazon Prime) and Nomadland (Disney+).

Vue has confirmed all its cinemas will be open from day one on May 17th, with English, Welsh and Scottish venues reopened.

There’s plenty of new releases lined up with films aimed at kids as well as big blockbusters and sequels.

Vue has also partnered up with BT Sport so Football fans can watch both the Champions League and Europa League finals at select venues.

Toby Bradon at Vue said:

“We have been enhancing the customer experience over the past year as our venues have been closed.

“We’ve added nearly 5,000 luxury recliner seats across our venues, launched snack and seat self-order screens in seven of our venues and added brand new premium bars to a number of our foyers.”

Vue has said that all its cinemas will be Covid-safe with physically distanced seating, improved online booking, extra cleaning, reduced touchpoints and enhanced ventilation systems.

As with Odeon, SHOWCASE Cinemas are set to reopen their doors on May 17th when indoor gatherings are allowed once again by law.

CINEWORLD has confirmed it plans to reopen its 128 UK branches following the easing of Covid-19 restrictions in the UK.

It has also struck a deal with Warner Bros to screen new films from the franchise 31 days ahead of streaming services when they open again.
