Free Teas For Those In Need

We have always been big supporters of this project, and applaud those taking part, in particular the guys at the COSY CLUB. In principle, the concept is simple, in reality however, the effect it can have is incredible.

Sometimes a simple cuppa and a chat can make our day. Most of us take that simple act for granted, most of us do it everyday. With over 9 million people in the UK – almost a fifth of our population – often feeling lonely, and 1.9 million older people sometimes feeling ignored or invisible, that simple cup of tea and a natter can make the world of difference to them.

Free Teas For Those In Need encourages local communities to pop in and enjoy a free cup of tea while connecting and chatting with new people. Cosy Club Cardiff has launched an initiative that aims to combat loneliness in people across the UK in a partnership with charity Independent Age.

Free Teas For Those In Need usually takes place between 10-11am each Wednesday in the restaurant located in St David’s and Cardiff Bay. Just be aware that current restrictions may affect those dates and times.

Cuppa & A Chat…..

Amber Wood, Managing Director of Cosy Club told us…….

“Loneliness isn’t an issue that affects just one group of people in our society, it can affect everyone of all ages and abilities across the country, with sometimes devastating impact. We are looking forward to partnering with Independent Age to try and make a difference to those who need it most.

“There is no catch to Free Teas For Those In Need, we just believe that it’s a nice thing to do in our community, and hope that everyone passes this on to someone they know or family members who may benefit from meeting new people, and a good cup of tea of course!”

Lucy Harmer, Director of Services at Independent Age, said……

“We’re thrilled to be able to partner with Cosy Club on Free Teas For Those In Need. It will help bring communities together and, on a practical level, will provide our volunteers and the older people we help with a safe, neutral place to meet. Hopefully it will also help to encourage people of all ages to mix more, with new mums drinking tea alongside older people, and help them realise they have more in common than they think.”

Whatever happens as we get older, we all want to remain independent and live life on our own terms. That’s why, as well as offering regular friendly contact and a strong campaigning voice, Independent Age can provide you and your family with clear, free and impartial advice on the issues that matter: care and support, money and benefits, health and mobility. A charity founded over 150 years ago, they are independent so you can be.
