After so long away from our venues it’s nice to go to a show that is pure escapism for a couple of hours. Great songs, lovely story and of course a fabulous cast. Well, the long standing DREAMBOATS & PETTICOATS is back with a brand new productions, which pretty much sums it all up – BRINGING ON BACK THE GOOD TIMES.
Bobby, Laura, Sue, Norman and the gang! It’s time to shake off those blues and Rock ‘n Roll like never before!
Inspired by the latest album release in the series of smash-hit, multimillion selling records, ‘Dreamboats’ is filled with wit, charm and songs from the golden era of Rock ‘n Roll. And we reckon there’s a fair chance you’ll know them all.
Featuring some of the greatest hit songs ever written from Roy Orbison, Eddie Cochran, The Walker Brothers and many, many more.
The cast for the new musical includes ELIZABETH CARTER as Laura, DAVID RIBI as Bobby and ALASTAIR HILL as Norman.
The cast also includes David Luke as Ray, Rob Gathercole as Jeremy, Lauren Chinery as Babs, Sheridan Lloyd as Andy, Mike Lloyd as Frank/Slugger and Chloe Edwards as Daisy/Brenda.
And it’s Elizabeth we caught up with on Zoom as she arrived at the latest venue on the tour, before getting ready to head to the New Theatre in Cardiff where the show runs for the week, from the 11th April.
We spoke about her time during lockdown, which seems to be a favourite question at the moment, and also about her love of this uplifting show.
Dreamboats and Petticoats – Bringing On Back The Good Times has a book by Laurence Marks & Maurice Gran, who have turned out some of our most iconic TV shows of the last 40 years.
They started back in the ’70s writing monologues for Frankie Howerd, our favourite has to be the era-defining character Alan B’Stard MP, star of The New Statesman, and now the successful revival of their long running and much loved sitcom “Birds of a Feather”.
The show picks up the adventures that Bobby and Laura and of course Norma and Sue, and Donna and Luke (the group’s manager) go through together, include a season at Butlins, and an appearance at The Eurovision Song Contest.
Bringing on Back the Good Times finds Laura with a successful solo career but her partner on their number one hit record Dreamboats and Petticoats’ Bobby has left the spotlight and decided to re-join his former group Norman and The Conquests at St Mungo’s Youth Club.
All of this leads them straight back into each other’s arms and bringing on back the good times indeed.
Dreamboats & Petticoats: Bringing on Back the Good Times will once again have you jiving in the aisles and singing along with these memorable classic hits.
The show gets to the New Theatre in Cardiff from Monday 11th to Saturday 16th April. Performances are at 7:30pm and a couple of 2:30pm matinee shows on Thursday and Saturday. To find out more, and grab yourself a ticket for the happiest show in town, go HERE.
