Life for Eurovision runner-up SAM RYDER has been out of this world since his fantastic performance in the competition. He’s been everywhere since then, in fact the only place he hasn’t been is outer space (man).
Sam is about to head out on his first solo tour and now, Escape Records have announced they will be bringing UK #1 artist and 2022 breakthrough star, to Singleton Park in Swansea tonight – Friday the 18th of August. All the ticket details are at the bottom of the page.
Representing the UK at Eurovision last year with his song Space Man, singer-songwriter Sam became the highest-scoring UK Eurovision entrant, coming a close second to Ukraine, although any other year he would have romped home to win.
it’s been quite the twelve months for Sam! He’s performed at the Brit Awards, Platinum Jubilee concert and his show ‘Sam Ryder Rocks New Year’s Eve’; toured Europe; announced a UK tour and now he’s coming to Swansea. You can watch the Jubilee performance HERE.
We asked Sam who he would quite fancy duetting with given the chance……
“Sia. She would be amazing. Not only is she incredible as a singer, musician, writer and person. But she was the first person to root for me on social media in lockdown. Justin Bieber sent my video to her, which is a bonkers sentence and she posted it on her Instagram page with a really kind, encouraging message underneath it and it would be really nice to complete the circle and meet with her, work with her. That would be a dream come true!
Alicia Keys is a legend, one of my absolute favourites. So I guess I’m spoilt for choice – they are the two best female singers there!”
With a Marcel Bezençon Press Award, heavy rotation on BBC Radio 1 and 2, and number 1 album ‘There’s Nothing But Space Man’ under his belt, Brit award nominee Sam Ryder is not one to miss. With his eagerly awaited 2023 UK selling out in record time the viral TikTok star has already sold out his Cardiff date this Spring at The Great Hall.
Supporting Sam will be CASEY LOWRY, the Chesterfield born artist who broke through with his debut single ‘Trampoline’, a winking nod to young love that clocked up over 500,000 streams and earned Casey a spot on Radio 1’s playlist. Lowry cemeneted that success by taking to TikTok in the pandemic and amassing a huge following (3.3m) on the platform with his viral song responses to meme and covers on popular trending songs. Opening the show will be WHO’S MOLLY? a Swansea based indie-rock band.
Rising to fame on TikTok during the first lockdown of 2020, Sam quickly caught the attention of some famous fans (think Justin Bieber, Sia, Alicia Keys and Elton John) – with compilations of his videos appearing on The Ellen Show, BBC’s Newsbeat and more. As the videos kept coming, so did the fans – with his socials standing at over 17 million and crowned as Tik Tok’s most popular UK artist account two years in a row.
Escape Records, the collective behind Wales’ biggest music festivals and shows including In It Together Festival, Inside Out, Colour Clash, Escape to the Park and are bringing Scooter and The Streets to South Wales this summer already! The addition of a massive headline Sam Ryder show to add to their summer schedule and it is truly is the jewel in their summer line up.
Escape Records director Mark Hopkins tells us……..
‘This is our biggest Summer ever!!! We absolutely love outdoor festivals and shows and it doesn’t get better than Sam Ryder at the moment! We’re looking forward to coming back to Swansea to listen to some epic songs, being a stones throw away from the beach. This event is one for the whole family from your Grandparents to young children. We can’t wait to welcome you all and make it a night to remember!”
