Get ready for a Thai feast for your eyes and palate as Giggling Squid brings its light floral interiors, bold flavours and abundance of food cooked with love and expertise, to St. David’s Cardiff. Scheduled for opening later this year, the restaurant will be the first Giggling Squid to open in Wales and will also offer all-day dining with its recently launched breakfast menu.
A true labour of love, and taking inspiration from Thai traditions and legends, Giggling Squid’s menu features vibrant, fresh and flavoursome dishes celebrating the abundance of exciting and exotic ingredients found across Thailand, all cooked by expert Thai chefs, including delicious dishes such as the beautifully vibrant Jicama Salad and tastebud tantalising Soft-Shell Pranee Prawns.
The site in central Cardiff features the bright and colourful décor that Giggling Squid is renowned for. The restaurant is a real feast for the eyes, with bold feature wallpapers and eye-catching giant bird cages and gazebos. The new location can seat up to 146 guests inside and boasts cosy banquette seating. It is the ideal spot for tasty Thai mealtimes, whether it be breakfast, lunch or dinner, with friends and family.

It’s been 20 years since co-founders and owners, Andy and Pranee first dreamt up their Thai tapas menu that’s still so popular on the Giggling Squid menu today. In 2002 they huddled together in the basement of a little fisherman’s cottage (now our Brighton restaurant!) and devised a plan to bring the true Thai mealtime buzz to the UK. We sat down with them to find out in 20 questions, the giggling good, bad and the rest!

“Thai mealtimes are energetic, informal, adventurous and where food is celebrated. It’s relaxed and there’s no standing on ceremony. We simply want people to have a great time over something tasty!
Every Giggling Squid has its own personal touch to it, and this restaurant is no different; it’s a beautifully designed space that we hope will bring a lot of pleasure to our guests. We can’t wait to welcome everyone to our site in St. David’s Cardiff.”

Giggling Squid is expected to open in late Autumn and will be at 29-33 The Hayes, Cardiff. serving breakfast through to dinner.
