Barry Island Triathlon Moves To May

Following on from an amazing event last year, the BARRY ISLAND TRIATHLON was to be here in May but we understand it’ll be rescheduled to next May, effectively missing a year. There are different races taking place, both equally tough, but one slightly less so. And it’s an early start for all you keeners who want to get out there in the bracing waters.

There’s swimming, bike laps around the special course and a lap running around the course. That’s the first one as you can see below.

Sprint (750M swim, 20k bike, 5k run)
Sprint athletes will complete one swim lap, three bike laps and one lap of the run course returning to the prom and the Eastern shelter finish.

Standard (1500m swim, 40k bike, 10k run)
The standard distance athletes will complete two swim laps, six bike laps and an extended run lap before finishing your race along the Prom.

After doing all that and you’ve crossed the finish line you will receive one of their awesome medals and fantastic commemorative goodie bags!

Now the stuff you need to know before the day itself……

Athletes will need to bring their home nations race day license or proof of ID and purchase a BTF race day license at registration. On race day a new secure athlete-only transition opens at 5:30 and closes at 6:40am. All athletes must attend the mandatory safety brief on the Prom at 6:45am before the first wave enters the sea at 7:00am.

Once you have completed your swim you will enter Transition before collecting your bike and setting off on the fast, closed road route and then return to Transition before starting your journey to the finish line party!

This year both distances will be racing closer to High Water on Whitmore Bay.

At the finish make sure you collect your medal, goodie bag and hand over your timing chip! The finishers ceremony at approx 10:30am where everyone will be celebrating the whole race and awarding podium prizes to the 1st, 2nd and 3rd male and female winners. Please stay and join take part as they also award prizes to people who the organisers see doing cool things!
