Barry Scouts Get Set for Christmas Deliveries as Popular Post Scheme Returns

Scouts in Barry are once again getting ready to deliver season’s greetings to people in the town as the popular Scout Post returns for Christmas 2024.

The scheme is simple to use – buy your stamps at one of the businesses listed below, stick it onto the envelope and post the cards in one of the special collection boxes located at the same businesses. 

The cards will then make their way to Smugglers, 1^st Barry Scout Group HQ, off Park Crescent where they will be sorted ready for delivery before Christmas.

You can also buy stamps from and give your cards to any of the 150 members of 1^st Barry Scout Group, who will be selling and collecting, as well as delivering the Christmas cards.

Stamps are on sale now and cost 40p each.

The final date for collection is Tuesday 10th December. Most of the cards will be delivered on Saturday 14th and Sunday 15th December.

Cards can only be delivered in Barry.

Last year saw the return of the Scout Post to Barry for the first time since the Covid pandemic. Around 20,000 cards were delivered in 2023 and 1^st Barry are keen to top that this year with volunteer teams of Scouts, parents, grandparents, former Scouts and other supporters of the group already assembled to help with the selling of stamps, sorting and delivery.

Fatima Salhab, Chair of 1^st Barry Scout Group and a parent at the group told us…..

“Sending Christmas cards is a treasured Christmas tradition for many people and we’re happy to once again be supporting the residents of Barry by delivering their season’s greetings to their friends and family in the town. 

The Scout Post is run entirely by volunteers – many of whom are young people from our groups. They give up their weekends and evenings to provide this service to help the community. However, it’s a two-way process because the incredible support from the people of Barry enables us to raise valuable funds which provide our young people with opportunities to take part in activities they may not otherwise have access to. We know that the skills gained through Scouting – teamwork, leadership, resilience, stepping outside of your comfort zone and trying new things – equip young people with valuable skills which will stay with them for life and, as a volunteer-lead organisation, fundraising is essential in enabling us to do this.

We are grateful to the people of Barry for their continued support of the Scout Post., Everyone from the people who buy the stamps, the businesses who act as selling and collection points, and the army of volunteers who ensure the smooth running of the post scheme enable us to continue to provide Scouting experiences to our young members.”
