Ethecial Boutique Opens

It’s hard to believe it’s now five years since the SAFE FOUNDATION opened their first Ethical Boutique on Whitchurch Road in Cardiff.

The boutique sells vintage, upcycled clothes and donations and homewares and isn’t your typical charity shop. They definitely have the cool factor.

Now, The SAFE Foundation has opened its sustainable shopping store, ETHICAL BOUTIQUE, at St David’s Dewi Sant with a ribbon cutting yesterday (Friday 4th August). Welsh tenor Trystan LlÅ·r Griffiths did the honours.

As well as selling pre-loved clothing carefully selected for its quality, style, and sustainability, Ethical Boutique will host The SAFE Foundation’s Conscious Coffee stand every weekend. Conscious Coffee, funded by St David’s owner Landsec’s Futures Fund, will offer free barista and hospitality training to those looking to enter the industries across Cardiff and beyond – while serving delicious, ethically-sourced coffee.

Up to 400 people per year are expected to benefit from the Conscious Coffee training, which will include espresso machine operation and calibration, latte art tutorials, and customer service experience while also improving confidence and increasing employability.

The St David’s Ethical Boutique is the second branch of The SAFE Foundation’s sustainable stores, and will see all proceeds going towards projects to support deprived families and communities around the world.

The SAFE Foundation Director Angie Bettany told us…..

“We believe that fashion can be both stylish and ethical, and by using income to support The SAFE Foundation, we’re making a positive impact on people’s lives in Wales and around the world.

We’re excited to see the opening of this branch of Ethical Boutique which plays host to our Conscious Coffee employability scheme, thanks to funding from the Landsec Futures Fund. We’re not your average charity shop, and we can’t wait to welcome the adventure our second store brings.”

Helen Morgan, Centre Director at St David’s Dewi Sant added…..

“Ethical Boutique is an excellent addition to our retail mix at St David’s. Not only does the store offer a range of sustainably sourced, high-quality clothing, but profits being invested back into The SAFE Foundation’s work makes shopping there an even bigger joy.

Working with The SAFE Foundation via our Landsec Futures Fund means we can bring more value to the communities we serve where it’s needed most. We’re excited to support opportunities into employment via the Conscious Coffee stand, and look forward to hearing stories from the programme’s beneficiaries.”

ETHICAL BOUTIQUE can be found on Cathedral Walk inside St David’s and is open Tuesday – Sunday from 9am to 6pm.
