If you’ve not come across MERCURY THEATRE WALES, we can highly recommend their upcoming production at Chapter. They are a Cardiff-based theatre company that aims to produce high quality, innovative and thought-provoking work. They are wholly committed to developing Welsh talent and bringing to the Welsh stage new pieces of theatre, created to be relevant to contemporary audiences and the communities with whom they engage.
Their latest production is just that. FINDING HOME is a powerful piece of theatre exploring homelessness. It tells the story of a diverse group of characters who find themselves thrown together in a makeshift family as they face the challenges of life without a home. Written by Bethan Morgan and directed by Lynn Hunter, the stories told are based on the true experiences and life journeys of people who’ve found themselves homeless for differing reasons, many of whom contributed to the play’s development.
Bethan Morgan, Artistic Director, Mercury Theatre Wales told us……
“Inclusion, integration and empowerment all lead to gaining a sense of belonging, self-worth and achievement for people both with and without a permanent home. We hope to develop a better understanding and awareness of the many people in the community around us and help tackle the general stereotypes that the public may hold about homeless people.”
Sitting on the Fourth Wall said about the production…..
“An expansive production, Finding Home explores an enormous topic through intimate, personal stories – drawing its audience into the realities of homelessness through deft theatrical storytelling.”
The National Lottery actually chose FINDING HOME as an example of how funding through the Arts can be used to tackle the issues of Homelessness.
