After an absolutely incredible 2019, and an enforced break this year, DEPOT IN THE CASTLE returns to Cardiff for its 4th year, and it will be one hell of a party, which I reckon we’re all more than ready for.
Some of the biggest acts in the world headline the phenomenal castle stage, but it’s also a day packed with Street Food and other entertainment.

The guys at DEPOT say you can expect the same vibes and sensational entertainment for the whole family! They’ll be bringing you the best of the best local artists; from glitter girls to circus acts, from storytellers to stilt walkers. And the festival design team will be working overtime to ensure the iconic venue will be the perfect place to relax on a Summer’s day.
And OH MY GOD (see what we did there) look who is the headline act.
If ever there was a band to enjoy in the great outdoors, then it has to be the KAISER CHIEFS. With a stable of massive, anthemic hits, they will undoubtedly blow the metaphorical roof off. Come on, you can picture it now cant’ you?
I think what we love about the guys is their originality, of course, but also that hint of late 70s, early 80s punk about them. Each album has been a belter, from Employment (2005), Yours Truly, Angry Mob (2007), Off with Their Heads (2008), The Future Is Medieval (2011), Education, Education, Education & War (2014), Stay Together (2016), and Duck (2019). There was of course the obligatory ‘hits’ album: Souvenir: The Singles 2004–2012 and a boat load of hit singles along the way.
In fact the debut album Employment, was not only a critical success and sold over three million copies sold. It won the band three Brit Awards, including the award for Best British Group, a NME award for Best Album, and was shortlisted for that years Mercury Prize.

Just in case you’ve forgotten, here’s a few more hits to get you in the mood.
But the whole day will be one long party, filled with some great music.
There’ll be a DJ Set from BASEMENT JAXX. Felix Buxton and Simon Ratcliffe have been doing this for a long time now. Their first success came in the mid 90s and it’s been pretty much non-stop since then. From their regular club nights in Brixton, to BRIT AWARDS Best Dance Act, these guys will absolutely keep the party going.
ELLA EYRE is also on the bill, and actually says her musical influences include Basement Jaxx, so we expect to see her partying along with the guys.
Ella is no stranger to awards either , having picked up Best Single for Waiting All Night which she collaborated with Rudimental. Sh’e gone on to work with DJ Fresh, Sigala and released a couple of cracking singles this year.
Also playing on the day are the GENTLEMAN’S DUB CLUB who have one of the best live sets around. These guys have played pretty much every festival going, and have set the stage alight every time. Amazingly, their records remain within the top 40 of the Itunes store album reggae charts since release. You have to catch them live at the Castle.
LOTTERY WINNERS, MR WILSON’S SECOND LINERS and DODGY will all be taking to the stage. And we just know the Cardiff crowd will be singing along to every line in Good Enough.
As if you need a reminder, here’s the song. This is our favourite version recorded at the Royal Albert Hall a few years back. It is absolutely epic.
Moving into the evening the grounds will be transformed into a place where you can really let your hair down with some close friends. There’s nothing quite like watching the sun go down behind the Castle, accompanied by an incredible soundtrack.
Food and drinks are what DEPOT best at! So you can expect only the finest selection of both street food and drinks on day. The Castle offers up the perfect location to sip on a cold one, whilst enjoying some of the best traders around and dancing along to your favourite artists.
DEPOT IN THE CASTLE is on Saturday 14th August at Cardiff Castle. It all kicks off at 12 noon and the party continues till 10:30pm. If you’d like more details, and to get yourself tickets, go here. KAISER
