Undoubtedly MIKE DOYLE is one of our best known entertainers. In fact walk past one of our many theatres and there’s a chance you’ll see Mike staring at you from one of the posters.

Whether its Pantomimes or his own Rocking With Laughter shows, Mike is a stage favourite with audiences all across South Wales, and beyond. Mike is theatre royalty, well, he’s a regular Dame around Christmas time.

Mike now hopes to make it to the very top of our download music charts, not so he can appear on a virtual Top of the Pops, but to give support to the NHS and the incredible medical staff who have worked relentlessly thorough the pandemic.

His current ingle, “The Face of Kindness”, written by Vernon Hopkins, is not only dedicated to the NHS but proceeds going to their charity.

The song has special relevance to Mike in what has been an emotional and challenging year, both personally and professionally.

Mike recorded the track after his son Tommy Doyle was diagnosed with Covid-19 last year. Tommy was put on a ventilator and spent four weeks under sedation.

We put a Zoom call in to him to talk about the single. We also touched on his love of performing and the excitement at getting back to Panto at the New Theatre in Cardiff this winter.

But first he took us through a story we all know too well, the start of the pandemic. For Mike it all began to unfold while he was away from home working on cruise ships. Before long, the virus had taken its hold and Mike’s son Tommy was fighting for his life.

Mike picks up the story in our interview below, which you can also watch on the SOUTH WALES LIFE YouTube channel…………

We would encourage you to head off to your favourite download store and treat yourself to the single. Not only is it a great listen, but you are helping the NHS Charities for your 99p purchase.

To help you along the way you can download it from these services.

As Mike said you can join him, Paul Chuckle, Gareth Gates and Gareth Thomas when they get to the New Theatre in Cardiff for a magical season.

Packed with all of the traditional pantomime ingredients audiences expect, Aladdin features laugh out loud comedy, stunning scenery, beautiful costumes and plenty of boos and hisses.
