In a story filled with heart and hilarity, the Greedy Pig Theatre Company is bringing PEACOCK to The Riverfront in Newport this week.
We follow Seamus who thought he had everything worked out when he came out as bi. But when he starts experimenting with makeup and falling in love, he finds himself propelled into a messy journey of discovery about what it means to be a man who sometimes wants to be both masculine and pretty.
Often hilarious, always authentic, Peacock is a heart-warming, authentic look at the taboo surrounding men wearing makeup. It also features a fantastic soundtrack of pop anthems, which I’m sure we’ll all know and love.
Greedy Pig Theatre Company is based over the bridge in Bath and was founded in 2018 by Bath Spa University alumni, Lex Kaby and Doug Murdoch. The pair met through their shared passion for musical theatre, and it has since become apparent that they also share a creative drive for many other kinds of theatre. Holly joined the sty in 2021 after working with Greedy Pig as a freelance producer.
Greedy Pig make shows that highlight sociological issues surrounding gender and sexuality, and experiment with form and new-writing to make a positive impact through theatre. ‘Peacock’ is an uplifting, poignant play following a bisexual man navigating his relationship with makeup & masculinity.
Written by Doug and directed by Lex, ‘Peacock’ was created through a 4-week Arts Council funded script development R&D period in Summer 2022, inspired by Doug’s personal experiences with masculinity and self expression through makeup.
ALEX WOLLACOTT is Violet. Alex works professionally in theatre as an actor, director, facilitator, drag king and choreographer. She brings a unique energy and openness to devising processes and loves investigating the building blocks of theatre making.
