Widely regarded as one of the most innovative and influential bands of all-time, PiL (PUBLIC IMAGE LTD) will celebrate their 45th anniversary this year with a UK tour taking place in September which kicks off in Swansea tonight.
Their music has earned them 5 UK Top 20 singles and 5 UK Top 20 albums.
Led by JOHN LYDON, the band’s shifting line-up saw their sound develop through rock, dance, folk, pop, and dub. Releasing their debut album ‘First Issue’ in 1978, they worked through until 1992’s ‘That What Is Not’, before a 17 year hiatus.
John reactivated PiL in 2009, touring extensively and releasing two critically acclaimed albums ‘This is PiL’ in 2012 followed by ‘What The World Needs Now…’ in 2015.
John Lydon, Lu Edmonds, Scott Firth and Bruce Smith continue as PiL. They are the longest stable line-up in the band’s history and continue to challenge and thrive.
Former Sex Pistols frontman John Lydon published his second autobiography Anger Is An Energy a couple of years back and at the time. He discussed rumours of being honoured by the Queen and his standing as a so-called “national treasure”.
In typical John style, he said at the time……
“I’ve heard the rumours. Oh, they’re trying to give me an OBE or an MBE or whatever that is. Nope, not interested… You wouldn’t say that (I’m a national treasure) if you saw the state of my underpants, I tell you. Let’s be honest.”
The new tour kicks off right here in South Wales at the Patti Pavilion in Swansea tonight (Monday 11th September). Ticket are still available HERE.
