Rhod Gilbert is well and truly back. He recently played a sell out night at the Wales Millennium Centre for Velindre Cancer Care, and is now in the middle of his new stand-up show, RHOD GILBERT AND THE GIANT GRAPEFRUIT. The massive 110 dates which runs through to November 2025.
“It’s a show about navigating the dark bits and turning life’s giant grapefruits into something approaching lemonade”
His agent told us…..
“Rhod’s last tour, The Book of John, kicked off in 2019 and ran until 2023 (with extra dates added due to overwhelming demand, covid delays, and further postponements due to Rhod’s cancer diagnosis). A highly personal and honest show, Rhod performed The Book of John to over 200,000 people, amassing widespread rave reviews, with critics hailing it as his best live show to date.
“When life gives you lemons… Previously, Rhod was dealing with some pretty pungent life citrus, and an idiot called John. Little did he know that things were about to turn even more sour… But Rhod’s not bitter; he’s bouncing back and feeling remarkably zesty. Hilariously dark, passionate and way too personal, this is classic Gilbert, squeezing every last drop out of life’s latest curveballs… with a little help from an old adversary.
“This new live show sees Rhod back on stage doing what he does best. Candid, hilarious and uplifting; it’s a show about navigating the dark bits and turning life’s giant grapefruits into something approaching lemonade.”
Rhod said…..
“After the year I’ve had it’s wonderful to be alive and going back on the road. I can’t wait to get back on stage and I’m ready to get way too personal about life’s recent ups and downs. When life gives you lemons, you have to squeeze them ’til the comedy juice flows, so prepare for some dark but funny s***”.
Since 2020, he has hosted five series of Rhod Gilbert’s Growing Pains for Comedy Central with special guests joining him on a trip down memory lane in a nostalgic, and frequently embarrassing celebration of teenage years. Previously, Rhod hosted three series of BBC Two’s hugely popular show You’re Fired: interviewing outgoing candidates and taking a light-hearted look at events in The Apprentice. He regularly hosts Have I Got News For You? and hosted a series of BBC Two’s iconic music quiz Never Mind the Buzzcocks, and two series of Ask Rhod Gilbert; his own panel show for BBC One.
Rhod has written and presented two very personal documentaries. Rhod Gilbert: Stand Up To Shyness explored the huge impact that shyness has had had upon his life and was met with tremendous critical acclaim; earning nominations in the 2018 Bafta Cymru Awards for ‘Best Single Documentary’ and ‘Best Presenter’. His second documentary was another subject close to his heart; Rhod Gilbert: Stand Up To Infertility, explored his own experiences with fertility issues, and the subject of male fertility in general. The programme was nominated for ‘Best Single Documentary’ in the 2021 Bafta Cymru Awards. Rhod is now proudly working with the Fertility Network UK on an ongoing campaign to continue to raise awareness around the issue
