Here in Wales We Prefer Good Sleep to Sex or Money

Over four in five of us would rather better sleep than money or sex, inspiring Bensons for Beds new ‘Sleep Forecast’.

84% of people in Wales say they struggle to sleep, while 83% say they want to improve their sleep in 2026. Everyday habits and shared living arrangements appear to be playing a major role with 24% admitting to drinking three or more cups of coffee a day, and 37% claiming their partner regularly disturbs their sleep.

The Sleep Forecast: A playful yet practical digital tool designed to give us a clearer picture of what might influence our sleep each night.

It offers a helpful snapshot of the factors that could shape your night ahead. By combining personal sleep habits with real-time influences, such as weather conditions, traffic-related pollution and local and national news, the tool creates an easy-to-understand sleep outlook, with tailored tips and sleep advice – helping users feel more informed before their head hits the pillow.

Sleep has become one of the nation’s favourite talking points, right up there with the weather, and yet, unlike rain or sunshine, there’s never been a way to forecast how well we might sleep.

The launch comes as new research from Bensons for Beds highlights just how tired the nation is. A nationwide survey of 2,000 adults found that almost three in five (57%) regularly struggle to sleep, while over half (55%) wake up still feeling tired. Looking ahead, 84% of Brits say they want to improve their sleep in 2026, showing a clear appetite for tools that make better sleep feel more achievable.

Available HERE, the Sleep Forecast delivers a tailored sleep outlook in just a few simple steps:

  1. Users select their nearest city and share a few basics, such as age, sleep habits and bedroom preferences such as ideal room temperature
  2. The platform merges this information with live external factors, including weather conditions, traffic-related pollution and the news agenda
  3. Each factor is shown as playing a positive or negative role, contributing to an overall sleep outlook with a clear explanation of why that result has been generated
  4. Users then receive practical tips and expert-backed advice, including guidance from Bensons for Beds sleep specialists, to help support a better night’s sleep

The research also reveals the everyday pressure that can creep into bedtime. Anxiety plays a big role, with almost a third of Brits saying worries about money (31%) or family (31%) often disrupt their sleep, while 22% say work-related stress keeps them awake. Modern habits don’t help either, with 22% admitting to staying up too late doomscrolling on their phone. At the same time, whilst sleep trackers and scores have grown in popularity, they can sometimes add pressure, with some people finding that worrying about their sleep data only increases anxiety around bedtime.

And the effects go beyond feelings groggy: Over half (52%) say poor sleep negatively affects their mood, outranking arguments with a partner (32%), or even having a cold (28%). In fact, sleep is so highly valued that three quarters of Brits (75%) would rather enjoy a perfect night’s sleep than receive £1,000, and 81% would choose it over sex with their partner.

Lisa Richards, Head of Marketing at Bensons for Beds told us…

“After the weather, sleep is one of the top three things Brits like to complain about, yet there’s never been a way to forecast a good night’s sleep. That’s why our sleep-obsessed team have created the Sleep Forecast, the UK’s first national forecast designed to help people understand the external factors in their area that could impact their rest. From storms and heat to pollution and noisy local events, the Sleep Forecast helps people make sense of what’s going on around them, while our expert teams in store are always on hand to help customers find the mattresses, beds and pillows best suited to whatever their forecast might predict.”

Sleep expert James Wilson, also known as The Sleep Geek, has partnered with Bensons for Beds to support the campaign. James said…

“Sleep isn’t just about what mattress you’re on, it’s shaped by what’s happening around you and inside your head. Things like stress, temperature, light, noise and even the day’s news can all nudge sleep in the right or wrong direction. Bensons for Beds Sleep Forecast helps people understand those influences, so instead of blaming themselves for a bad night, they can make small, realistic changes that genuinely improve sleep over time.”

The Sleep Forecast is available now HERE, offering daily sleep insights, expert advice and tailored product recommendations to help the UK wake up feeling more refreshed.
