We all know how much our kids love being on our, or their own phones but in our house it’s getting that fine line between keeping them happy and the creativity flowing. Step in the Canal Toys PHOTO CREATOR INSTANT POCKET PRINTER. When you have a youngster who is both mad about art but equally crazy about staring at a screen, this is the perfect addition. What is great about it too, is that us older ones can get creative too.
So what is the Photo Creator?
It’s basically a 7 in 1 Multi-Function instant pocket printer, which is the official blurb, but for Sophia, it was hours of fun creating, colouring, printing and sticking. We now have stickers, labels and pictures everywhere, and we love it.
The package includes the printer itself, which is small enough to fit in your pocket or bag and sits really neatly on her desk. There’s also 3 colour pens, which are cool and funky themselves. You get 3 rolls of printer paper, 1 roll of sticky printer paper, the USB-C charging cable, and a sheet of stickers (which have been well and truly used). You also get the instructions, but to be honest it’s so easy to use once you’ve downloaded the companion app.
First thing to do is to charge the printer, although it does come with some charge in it. While that’s going on, download the free app, clear a space on your table and get ready to print. Incidentally, there’s no ink, no fiddling around trying to get the printer roll into the unit. You simply open it up, drop it in, and away you go.
It’s a thermal printer so it does feel like a bit of magic is happening when you print your first design. It does come out in clack and white, but that’s the fun of this kit, it’s you that gets to colour in whatever you’ve printed – or not if it’s a banner or label.
As you can see in the video below, the app is really easy to use, it’s only instruction hungry geeks like me who likes to explore every inch of it before we began. In the hands of your child, they’ll be up and running in minutes – actually, make that seconds. It took Sophia no time at all to print her first masterpiece and set about adding her own splash of colour.

We’ve had it for a few weeks now and Sophia comes back to it time and time again. If she needs a label, to make a littler banner for one of her friends, or just wants to print off a picture of image, it does it immediately with no effort and no mess.
She loves it, we love how more creative she has become since opening the box. The possibilities are endless. In fact, we have even used it label up bottles, jars and a whole load of stuff in the office.
