The CLASSIC MISS BRITISH ISLES may not be a competition you’ve come across before, but it is something a little different and for us, very special.

First of all, it’s open to ladies over the age of 45 on the date of the national final. Like most competitions it comes with an incredible array of prizes, but for us, what makes this special is the confidence it gives some women.

During our many months through the pandemic we are all lacking a bit of self-esteem, the Classic Miss competition seems to be addressing that for the contestants taking part.

Flying the South Wales flag is Amanda Lawrence who has been selected to take part in the National Final of the Classic Miss British Isles 2020/21 Model Competition.

Amanda is a finalist in the Classic Miss Cwmbran 2020/21.

If ever there is a poster girl for looking after yourself, then Amanda is the one. She runs her own Health & Wellbeing business, promoting Aloe Vera, which incidentally she drinks everyday and uses creams for her skin.

And in true ‘Miss” fashion – Amanda’s hobbies include Keeping fit and healthy, Cycling, Running, S A work, Listening to music, Zumba, Going for walks, and of course a bit of fashion.

She has been in a” fly on the wall” documentary on Channel 5. Also had her story in the local and National papers around the world including two magazines, Woman’s Own and Chat Monthly.

Amanda has also been involved with The Mind Charity through Beauteous, where a calendar was made for 2020 in support of the charity. She was the month of January.  

Now I have to say that here at SOUTH WALES LIFE we have met Amanda during that calendar shoot, and like all the ladies involved in this brilliant cause, she shone through the camera lens.

What we remember about speaking to Amanda, and the other models that day, was how confident being part of such an event made them feel. It seems, getting into the Classic Miss British Isles is something which is also great for self-esteem, a question we put to Amanda when we spoke to her earlier.

Amanda has 6 generation babies in her family and is a Great Grandmother of 2 little boys. Her nan is still going strong at an amazing age of 101. 

Now one thing we pride ourselves on here is not being obsessed with people ages, you’ll never find a story in our magazine which says ‘such and such a person, aged whatever.’ We are all people and that’s what defines us, not our age.

Having said that, we’re about to relax those rules to tell you that Amanda has just turned 60 and is more vibrant, confident, and in (and I’m sure she won’t mind us saying this) the best shape of her life.

The judges will have looked through the huge amount of entries the competition attracts every year. The finalists then represent their home area at the National Final.

Amanda will be up against finalists from Ireland, Scotland, Wales and all across England. She will be required to take part in a professional photo shoot prior to the final and then a catwalk show at the final itself, which is in front of the judges. The winner will then be announced on the day.

As for the prizes, we have to say they are something a little special. The winner will receive a modelling & promotions contract. They keep the fabulous Classic Miss British Isles crown and stunning studded winner’s sash. They also receive……

The National Final of Classic Miss British Isles is on Thursday 2nd September at The Final Furlong Marquee at Chester Racecourse in Chester. We of course wish Amanda huge luck in the competition and sure she’ll enjoy every second of it.
