Last summer we wrote this story amid rumours that the Spice Girls are planning to get out on the road to celebrate their 25th anniversary with a massive world tour, which could see them back in our capital once again. Now, Mel B has added fuel to these by saying the girls are eager to get back on the road once the pandemic is under control.
Mel, who surprised us all with a terrific appearance on ITV’s The Masked Singer, the singer, said it’s been tricky to put plans into motion, having been key to the girls getting back together for the 2019 tour.
Mel said……..
‘People need a bit of entertainment. Music brings people together. I would love it – as soon as the rules allow it, then yeah.’
‘Until the virus gets under control I don’t think anyone can securely say “I’m definitely going on tour”.
‘When it comes to putting on a show or concert, I don’t know how people are going to do it without the proper guidelines and information, because things change on a weekly basis.”
“Us lot are definitely up for it – it’s just a case of timings and safety. I’m always itching to get back on to the stage.”
The tour could take in dates across Europe, America and Australia. We have a feeling however, that it’ll be four and not the full five, as Victoria seems unlikely to join girls once again.
The last reunion tour proved just how much we really, really love a bit of Spice in our life. Emma Bunton (Baby Spice), Geri Horner (Ginger Spice) and Mel B (Scary Spice) pulled in over £200 million from last years live shows.
Our initial story of a rumoured world rumour of a world tour came on the back of Mel C hinting that the Girls will tour America once the coronavirus pandemic is over. She admitted that she’s hopeful they’ll be able to take the show further afield when restrictions in place due to the global crisis are lifted. She said…….
“I hope so, I really do. We talk all the time, we talk about what we’d like to do, any options that we have. We would love to do more shows, we really would. Obviously, this year has gone nuts and no one knows what’s gonna happen with shows, for now.”
“But personally for me, speaking on my own behalf, I would love to do Spice Girls shows in the US, in South America, in South East Asia, and get into Australia finally. All those places we never got to, as well as the US because I love to be there.”
And while ‘Posh’ didn’t join the UK tour, Mel vowed to do…….
“Everything I can within my power to try and get all of us back on stage together. Yeah, of course we want her to join! We talk about it all the time. We’re always going, ‘Oh, one day, maybe she will one day.’
“We were kind of hoping she’d end up coming on the last one. Of course, we respect Victoria’s decision, and her feeling towards it.
Although she wasn’t with us on the stage, she was very much involved in the show. We wanted her to be happy and comfortable with all of the direction, with the creative and everything, because it’s her baby as much as the rest of us.”
Sources close to Mel C have also said that she reportedly spilled the details about their anniversary plans to close friends, over WhatsApp and Zoom.
‘It’s going to be a huge year and the girls are excited. After all the coronavirus problems, there really needs to be something to look forward to and they want to take over with a tour.’
Another source claimed……
‘As they are approaching 50, they want to get out while they still look great for the fans’.
The girls were all said to be inspired by the mammoth success of their Spice World Tour last year, where they performed to tens of thousands of fans across the UK, including a sold out Principality Stadium in Cardiff. They shifted just over 700,000 tickets in total.
If the girls do make their way back to Cardiff we can only hope for better weather than their last appearance. The stadium roof was open for the gig and the heavens opened too. We remember the singalong to support act Jess Glynne (who was amazing) was a sight to behold with a stadium filled with umbrellas. But there was no way a bit of rain was going to dampen the spirits.
Emma got a huge cheer as she told the crowd they were a “bit drenched” and Mel B admitted they had to make a few changes to the set due to the weather. She also asked the crowd……..
“Do we look like drowned rats? Is my hair still big?!”
The set list included all the songs we really wanted to hear, and a few surprises thrown in for good measure.

If you think it’s odd seeing the girls without Victoria, remember, they did play sell out concerts with her there but minus Geri.
Whether we get to see the girls back on the road remains to be seen, but with a 25th anniversary to celebrate and the possibility of another £200 million in the bank, we have a feeling it could well be on the cards.
