Its About To Get Festive At The Royal Mint Experience

Following months of lockdown, we are all searching for things to do, we reckon a visit to THE ROYAL MINT EXPERIENCE is just the thing. For a fun day out in South Wales, the Experience not only offers really popular exhibitions and tours but also has a range of fun events, suitable for all ages.

As one of Wales’ best visitor attractions, their events calendar includes storytelling workshops, design a coin workshops, historical talks from guest speakers and coin hunts.

And this Christmas it’s going to be very festive at the Royal Mint.

The Royal Mint Experience will be dusted with a blanket of snow, all white and magical for a wonderful festive outing. Take a tour of Santa’s workshop and discover the history behind coins in stockings, sixpences in puddings, and how the elves have been sorting letters and making toys alongside The Royal Mint’s coins for hundreds of years!

A magical time for the whole family, steeped in rich history. All children will meet Santa himself, and leave with a shiny gift to take home.

Tickets are £15 for adults and children and you can book them HERE.

As for the Royal Mint itself, if you are looking for things to do with the family or with friends at weekends or in the coming months, check out the events calendar and give the Royal Mint Experience a visit very soon!

While you’re on their site, make sure the kids head to their section. There is so much on offer, it’ll keep them amused and entertained for hours. KIDS

We use it everyday. Money is such an important part of our lives and yet the actual ‘cash’ the coins themselves, we take for granted. This is why a trip to the Royal Mint Experience is so fascinating.

Money is Fun…

You’ll learn more about the history of The Royal Mint, at one of our top-rated tourist attractions. You’ll be able to see the special coins and rare historical memorabilia that the exhibition holds.

There are six different zones to explore at your leisure and visitor hosts will be ready and waiting to answer any questions you may have. You can learn about the other side of the Royal Mint and take a look at the wide range of military, sporting and commemorative medals.

Do you know they have produced coins and medals for more than 100 countries, and also designed and created the medals for the London 2012 Olympic Games.

Olympic Medals…

They have some fantastic things for the kids to do online. So they can either play before, or after a visit to the Mint – or both.

For example, join Nathanial the Narrator as you follow the story of PADDINGTON AT THE TOWER.

Children will play a game of ‘Paddington says’, prepare their marmalade sandwiches for ‘elvenses’, join Paddington on his mystery outing on the bus, and build and take a tour of the tower!

To take part, you will need 3 boxes, a blanket, some marmalade (or jam, but Paddington definitely prefers marmalade!), bread, a ball and a drink.

Join Little Miss Inventor for a special virtual tour

This is a wonderful virtual outing for children and grandchildren to enjoy, and fun for all the family to join – even veteran numismatists may find Little Miss Inventor’s knowledge rather interesting!

Available to view on your phone or through a headset, the tour is highly interactive, giving you a continuous 360° view as Little Miss Inventor guides you along and provides fascinating insights into the world of coins. You can take the tour HERE.

You can also train to be a Knight of King Arthur’s Round Table with Sir Royce and save Guinevere from the evil Sir Parentalot!

In the latest instalment of their Facebook Live events, children will learn about the story of King Arthur while learning to ride a horse with Sir Royce, build a fort to shelter from Sir Parentalot, fire arrows to defend the fort, engage Sir Parentalot and save Guinevere.

To join in, you will need some boxes or cushions, a blanket and a ball (football would be ideal).

There really is so much to see and do. This is one experience you won’t want to miss. In fact the building itself is one you can’t miss – and yes, the café is reopen. So you can enjoy a drink and snack, or maybe treat yourselves to afternoon tea.

The Royal Mint Experience is open to visitors every Friday to Sunday. (Closed Christmas Day and Boxing Day, last tour at 1pm on Christmas Eve, New Years Eve and New Years Day)

Standard opening hours apply on bank holidays.

They are open every Friday to Sunday and Bank Holidays from 9:45am to 5:30pm daily. Last tour is at 4pm.
