Made up of spicy salmon, mushroom gyoza and spiced peanut chicken, this delicious selection of hand-picked dishes specially designed to spice up lunchtimes is amazing value at £22.50pp.
When the team invited South Wales Life along to sample the menu we leapt at the chance, not only for the amazing food they serve, but the feast on your eyes as you walk into this stunningly decorated restaurant.
Here’s Assistant Restaurant Manager Jasmine Bourke-Cross to talk us through each dish.
The Ivy Asia is renowned for its beautiful fusion flavours, exotic drinks and late night entertainment in the heart of Cardiff. It quickly became a glamorous destination restaurant serving incredible Asian-inspired dishes for lunch, afternoon tea and dinner, plus exotic cocktails late into the night. Once seen, The Ivy Asia is never forgotten, the experience is second to none.
The dishes are superb, and the decor is mind-blowing, as you can see, but I also want to give mention to the staff. They are not only warm and welcoming but guide you through the menu with ease to direct you to the dishes most suited to your tastes.
If you’re at all unsure what you’d like, or perhaps been a little hesitant to try, The Summer Lunch Stack is actually a great place to start. Three dishes, beautifully presented fragrant and flavoursome, with a little kick rather than a full-on blow your mouth blast of chilli.
Top of the stack was the Spiced Peanut Chicken, chicken thigh, served on skewers, with an accompanying Chickpea and Green Pepper Curry with rice. Straight off I can tell you the curry dish is my favourite, as delicious as they all are. I could go back for a main size portion of that any day of the week.
Middle stack is the Mushroom Gyozas with Spiced Yuzu Dressing. Occasionally, Gyozas can be a little soft, but these had been seared on the bottom after being steamed. There were light and delicious and the sauce (on the side) is the one that packs slightly more of a punch.
By the point I was feeling nicely full but left for the Spicy Salmon & Avocado Roll. Made fresh to order, these are next level sushi and nothing like the ones you grab with your £3.50 meal deal.
Again, for clarity, I’m not the biggest salmon fan, and would always avoid it on a menu. Now however, I’m a convert. The fish is the perfect accompaniment to these delicious rolls.
